Yeah that is high!!!! unless you are planning to tear it down and build everything. Because once you start to put down some power that drive train is gonna start to fail with all that high mileage. Not to mention you engine will need a rebuild soon.

Kelly's blue book says $1300 for mint condition, $1100 for good, $750 for fair.
I'd offer him less personally. That rust spot is nothing, pull the fender and replace with new then paint it cheap.

My turbo alone is going to cost more than that car:D $1200 or $750 is still dirt cheap for what you get as a foundation for building a mini supercar.

I'd expect a rebuild somewhere soon down the line considering the mileage, say another $1500 minimum, so factor that in with the sale price.

Eh I would say all in all if the car ran ok I would say it is worth it. Maybe it will give you a chance to do a lot of repairs to the talon and learn a lot of stuff about em.

This vehicle is in Maine and they are known to rust horribly up there. I lived half my life in Maine so I know from experience. As a suggestion ask if you can take it to a garage and have a proffessional mechanic look it over. Whe used to charge about $35.00 to put the car on the lift and give it a once over checking for rot bad suspension and what not. You can obviously choose to pay a lttle more and have them check the compression of the engine and pull the upper timing cover off to see the belt. I would reccommend that you do this because $30 or $40 is better to lose than to end up with a POS that turns into a money pit which can happen very quickly with one of these cars. If they wont let you have a pro look at it then dont buy it. And also never give asking price. Look for a few small flaws and (pardon the pun) jew them down a bit. I would think if it turns out okay you should be able to get it for a grand. Good luck and let us know. There are a lot of us here and are always glad to help a new DSM owner. Travis
PS If you can get it to a garage have them gop through it as if they were going to inspect the vehicle because as you know Maine has state vehicle inspections. Good luck

Hey whats' up .... The cars not that bad Like he said before have someone look at it... thats how I got beat.. I got my DSM off ebay and you really cant tell just buy looking at things your self if you dont know what your looking for.. I got a 91 GSX 5spd from FL with 109,xxx Org miles and the kid told me it was stock but he lied the more I pull this car apart the more im finding things that need to be done.. and I paid 2200 when it was all said and done and 600 to have it trucked back to new jersey and right now the car is on jack stands apart with the head off with oil all over in the head.. so now I had to find a new head and dish out 250 for that and a bunch of parts off ebay and that has added up past 3500 so far ... and I can even drive the thing cause once I get it back together who knows if it will even pass inspec.. u know.. so I would deff.. pay and do a carfax check and take it to a place to run the tests... Good Luck...

hmm...well sounds alot worse than i thought. well i have another talon im looking at. its a 94 talon DL 1.8L n/t 5spd. with about 154k miles. but the car is in mint condition, no rust and it is red in color. and they want $1500, does that seem like a better deal?............anyone in the new england area selling theirs?? haha

Do not buy the 1.8 they are slow no matter what. The talon though is nice I would give the seller about
$850 for it.

Spoon man is right!!! do not settle for a nonturbo!!!! you will definetly regret it. Boost is the way to go. Dont get frustrated and settle for anything that comes along. I know how hard it can be. I am in the same boat as you. I got 3 grand to spend and every time I find the right DSM its sold.:beatentodeath: Good luck bro

I have a 91' gsx right now but due to frame damage i would like to buy a shell and swap everything or something that runs and is cheap..i found one by me and this is what the ad says.

"parting out my car. its a 91 talon awd i would sell the entire car for 1,300 obo. or i can part it car runs but needs work. car has full interior, full drivetrain, tranny has aproxx 45k, but email me if you wanna know ### i have available. all parts are still on the car."

i emailed him and he said the car does not run im waitin for a reply back but what would be a good price on a car like this, i dont wanna pay to much for somehting that doesnt run? thanks alot:dsm:

Depends on the condition. I am looking for a shell that is in near perfect condition and the ones I have been interested in were around $1000 without an engine or transmission. And I would pay that without thinking about it but each one I have seen is to far away from me.

if i did it right these are the pics that he has posted not the greatest pictures but doesnt look to bad..

I'd offer him 1000 if the shell had no rust, more if it had a newer paint job. Seeing as I know how wisconsin roads are and it probably has rust, I would start at $500 bux, no more then $800. That's just me though.

Yeah, offer him less.
DSM = money pit

Trust me I have 2 a 91 gsx thats not running right now and a 99 gsx that I just picked up a few months ago. They are alot of fun; but like I said be ready to put some cash into the car.

well i offered him (the guy with the TSI) less and he said he wont budge from $1200 so i told him nevermind.......so...anyone have a DSM they want to get rid of? haha

I know of shells are for 300-500.I gave a 500 dollar motor for a mint running awd 91 talon!

Im looking at getting a 95 eclipse gs with 133k miles. This is the web link 95 Eclipse GS!! Tell me what you guys think. But heres the catch were Trading cars, he wants my auto 99 toyota corolla with 128k, and i want his car which is nice, because there will be no money issues, the only problem is how do you go about trading cars like title, registration and all that fun stuff?

We'll I dont think you can just trade off and walk away ,, Someone told me you cant do that... you have to sell it but you can sell it for a buck or something they said but then again every state has differnt laws to u know.. ..but good luck .. deff get a DSM .. i know i got alot of work in head of me.. but i wouldnt sell my car for 10k ... once you get one and sit in it you just fall in love ..LOL ask any DSMer ... but just get somone to look her over thats all good luck dude...

Ok, so here is the deal. My friend Nick wants to sell me his Talon pretty bad now. It is a 1995 Talon TSi. Black with leather interior. The interior is pretty much stock. It has been sitting waiting for a bottom end pulley for awhile now. Performance wise it has a Borla muffler, and possibly a cold air intake, short shifter, and some gauges, and an HKS SSQV.. depending if he switches all that over from the totalled Eclipse.

Maintenance wise:
New clutch in the summer
All the timing gone through and everything fubed replaced
New shocks and struts

I dont recall it all off the top of my head. I know there is more, but I need to talk to him about it. Pic below, does not have the FMIC anymore.

He wants 4k, but I am thinkin about seeing if he will get down to 3500. He seems pretty eager to sell it, and as much as I would hate to take advantage of a friend, I am gonna try and talk him down.

The mileage is 150,XXX. He also says I have free reign on both his parts cars if I ever need something. So that is 2 14b turbos in good condition. Two heads. Pretty much 2 of everything. And he has a 97 Eclipse front bumper he will sell me for cheap, and the hi-deck off the Eclipse. The only thing that I might not be able to get from either of the parts cars is the trans. As 1 is AWD, and 1 is auto. But if the trans ever goes out, I would probally get a JDM or Shep trans. So pretty much a running Talon, and two parts cars for 3500. The AWD still runs too. The FWD auto does not. So if I ever blow the motor, I can swap the AWD 4G63 in, it only has like 80k on it.

Or Sell ME the Spare Motor :D

I could swap the low mile engine in and sell you the 150k one if you want/if i buy it.

I added a pic of the Talon. It no longer has the front mount, and I am pretty sure I can get some new wheels for cheap from Nick...
