Welcome aboard....
Just out of curiosity, you mentioned that you paid $7500 for a 99 GSX.
How's the mileage?
I know you're probably not going to like this, but I'd suggest getting intimate with the engine and drivetrain first.

T-Belt, when was it last changed?
BSE, chances are this hasn't been done yet.
Replace all lubes.
Flush Rad and replace cap and thermostat.
New Fuel Filter
Symborski Shifter Kit and Speed Source Underhood Shifter Bushing Kit.
Those 2 that I just mentioned will tighten up that shifter really nicely, especially if you're pushing 100k on the clock.

Of course do your clutch and flywheel prior to replacing all lubes.

That IC can handle more than enough power, and even allows you to keep your stock foglights.
That site also sells a 3" O2 Housing Eliminating Turbo-Back.

Good Luck, and post up some pics of your ride...

first give us the lowdown on the car. then we can tell u things to do. mait. is key in owning a dsm. that is for sure

In the end, You will regret it just like the srt4, But twice as much. I would suggest investing the money into something else, Maybe something that is not car-related. At the end of the nite, It's your money so this post really won't affect you even the least bit

(this is not EVERYTHING you would need/want, just a few things to consider i suppose )

this is what I do though. Something else is not an option. I am going to be buying myself a daily driver, a luxury I did not have with the srt-4. I do not really regret the srt-4 at all, was a great car and it was faster than pretty much anything I have ever come across.

With the DD though, I dont mind having this car apart, and as people said, I will give it some tlc first by getting the maintenance up to par before I go and throw a huge turbo on it or anything like that.

"Nice Welcome to the family, shit 11k Go for the stroker motor and a shep tranny. If you got a dd then you dont need the car running right away you should just go balls to the wall."

I've been a member for like 2 years and I still don't know how to do the quotes in the gray box? Anyway start ground up, 450hp is not tough to achieve but I shure would want some nice internals for longgevity You will only hit performance walls if you don't. I would be impressed if I made it to 400hp but I still have a bottom end capable of much more. Unless you want to tear open your motor 2 or 3 times. These things will nickel and dime you to death, so be prepared.
Welcome!:dsm:

If he did not mod this car I would kill him. Haha as it is I have known him for like 4 years, and I dont see him not spending. Money on the car. So what it seems a good overhual of the car would be the first step. Then maybe start with some bolts ons. Or like i said before throw a nice 6bolt in there haha.

i like that 6bolt idea. get a built 6bolt and then just keep adding things one after another

6-bolt
10k redline
35R+ turbo
stand-alone
twin disc clutch
head studs
ML HG
FMIC
= ~$9k

You can add the rest of the misc. parts youself. Good tuning and a good driver and I see 10s.

nice switch. if you want to make hugh power a sbr built motor and shep tranny are in order. but set a hp goal then do your reserch, this it offers a nice help section

I know this sounds like a newbie thread right off the bat. Well here is my background, I just sold my 450whp daily driven srt-4. It had a built motor; every mod made for the car with a gt3076r turbo etc etc. So I am by NO means new to the turbo world. But the motor buildup kind of screwed me because I realized that I couldnt keep up with the car anymore. So here I am. I ended up selling the Srt-4 for $20K cash, and bought this car for only $7500, so you guys do the math on how much I have to spend. I dont want to just throw it away though, I can think of a good 2-3k i wasted on the srt-4 on stupid shit that I ended up getting rid of. I'm going to get a $2-3k daily driver so I want to put some serious work into this car.

Welcome, to the dsm community. That neons sounds like it was a highway monster. :thumb:

I need advice. I dont want this stock turbo to be on for more than like 1 week, I am incredibly bored already. So I need a list of mods to give me a good setup for the stock motor (thinking about a SBR shortblock, but stock for now) that will make me some good power, my buddy has a 50 trim and I like his setup.

I was thinking:
sbr50 (I know you guys like the FP turbos as well)
Dsmlink
injectors (size?)
Fuel Press regulator
fmic/exo/intake (basic bolt ons)
clutch?

Yes, FP turbos are one of the best turbo makers. There turbos are awesome:thumb: If I were you I would go with them, money isn't a factor right. I would go with a 3065 or 3052.

DSMLink, def get. Injectors I would go with 1000cc. You have DSMLink so you have nothing to worry about. And Import Evolution has a great Aeromotive AFPR SS line kit.

Clutch, yeah alot of people on these boards love the 2600. I haven't driven it, but I took a ride with someone who had one, and the car felt great. I did drive a Spec clutch the clutch did grab and held strong as hells. But it wasn't my car, so I can't tell you how it held up. But the ACT 2600 is a great clutch.

Have fun modding, stay boostin

Get some Tein Flexes and replace all rubber parts underneath and get a good set of tires. Also replace other worn suspension components and do your basic service. Get the car up to date on the T-belt and fluids and stuff. You don't need to get a race engine just yet.

Sorry about the previous response, I was just throwing that out there. I know I wasted ALOT of money modding dsm's (8-9 cars already), And I lost out on every single one of them. I bought an srt4 now too! I said I was going to leave it stock as a dd but that hasen't been happening as I planned, So I guess I can see where you're coming from ;)

Goodluck!

I Have a 2.5 inch cat-back exhaust, injen intake, 1g BOV, Full dejon tool upper and lower hardpipe system And the BCS Mod.. i need a Boost Gauge bad but do not know how to install the boost gauge, i can easily take it somewhare to get it installed but if its easy to do then why not me do it and save the money, Just need some help installing one and if someone can write down step by step on how to install a boost gauge. also be getting a MBC

Both are super easy installs.

Here's a link with step by step instructions for a mbc.

Step by step instructions

The only thing that is recommended is don't tap into your BOV live. Tap off the compressor housing nipple of your t25 or off a nipple of your licp, if you ic piping has one.

The boost gauge is easy.

1. Wire the positive to the light wire, its a green w/ white dashes.
2. Ground the negative wire.
3. Tap your vac line into the vaccum line from the intake manifold to fpr solenoid.

Stay boostin

Boost gauge install is very easy, hardest part was fishing the vac tube throught the dash up to the a pillar.

i would reccomend not using that crappy nylon tubing that comes with the boost guage.

You can source an install kit for a boost gauge from several vendors or just hit home depot and pick up a 1/8" NPT female thread barbed fitting for the back of the gauge. You will also want some quality vaccume hose that wont collapse under boost.

Also, you should invest in a logger NOW if you haven't already.

Boost gauge and MBC should be under 100. From there look for a cheap downpipe/test pipe and port your stock O2 housing.

Those are all good ideas, but do you have any maintance things you need to do. How about new plugs and wired. Or if it hasn't had it's 60k tuneup i would do that. Part of having a good quick car is just making it happy with some routine maintance. Just my .02:dsm:

Wiring the boost gauge has been covered as well as where to tap it to get your boost signal, but running the vaccuum line hasn't. Crawl down into your foot well on the drivers side and find where the steering column goes through the firewall. There is a boot around this. It is actually two layers. Just poke a phillips head screwdriver through the boot on the far left side so that the screwdriver goes through both layers and through the large hole in the firewall (can't see it, but it's the hole the column goes through). Run your vaccuum line from the inside of the car through that new hole into the engine compartment. Now you have to grab the end from the engine compartment and pull it up. I used one of those long, flexible pinchy-grabber thingies.

That tube T-s into the fuel pressure solenoid vaccuum line (there is a Tech article on VFAQ showing you exactly which vaccuum line to tap into). Cut that line and install a "T" fitting in the line. Then attach the boost gauge vaccuum line to the 3rd nipple on the T. Some say to anchor the boost line so that it can't get pulled into the universal joint in the steering column (remember the line came through the firewall right next to the steering column). I couldn't find a place to anchor it, so I just pulled every last bit of slack back through the firewall into the passenger compartment. Zip tie it if you can find a way to do it - I couldn't.

I mounted my gauge in an aftermarket A-pillar 3-pod unit (www.gaugepods.com for $45). I'll describe the rest assuming that's where you're gonna install the gauge.

Now, you can pull up the carpet in the driver's side foot well by pulling the pop tabs and plastic screws that hold the top edge of the carpet to the floor/firewall. Also, there's a small, triangular-ish plastic piece on the side of the footwell just in front of the driver's side door. Unscrew it and pull that off. Run the boost line under the carpet and under where that plastic cover was. Then run it upward between the end of the dashboard and frame of the car. It will come out right at the bottom of the A-pillar. You can then put the A-pillar gauge pod over the line, and you'll never see it, you won't get it snagged on your foot, etc.

Hope that helps!
