Thanks for all the replies! I would consider putting it in the bank but I think my mom would rather me spend it on something tangible because it is a gift. Would $300 really be enough to put a 14b in my car? If so I greatly overestimated how much that would cost. Just curious too, would a 14b be way too hard for someone who is very new to cars to install?

My theory on these cars is you have to start somewhere. Everyone (huge exaggeration) will eventually do a turbo job, and in my opinion my first turbo job gave me lots of hands on (foot, fist, breaker bar, etc) experience with my car. A 14b setup in my opinion is not a whole lot harder than a straight bolt on job such as a T28, but can definitely be done.

My biggest problem when first starting was a severe lack of tools, which made every big job I did cost that much more. Your best bet will be to find someone locally who is willing to oversee this and help with Q&A, as well as lend tools and equipment.

If i were you i would save it. wait a bit and get something better, in the long run youl be alot happier

Yeah, a 14b would only cost around $200 for it and everything to install it. I still say save for DSMlink. You could go ahead and get a socketed EPROM ECU from ffwdconnection.com for $250. That would be my choice, then save the other $50 towards Link.(or a SAFC/Keydriver/Logger combo)

I talked to a friend of mine with a WRX and he said he would help me out with the 14b. He knows his stuff, plus he has a garage full of tools. He actually sounded excited to work on an engine where everything is easier to get to. So the 14b is becoming a very tempting option because I can get some hands on experience and some more power. My question to you guys is what else would I need? I already plan on getting a pocketlogger. But do I need a fuel pump, injectors or an SAFC? And if not, what boost level can I safely run that turbo and what kind of gains can I expect?

If I were you, I'd get a 190lph fuel pump with the 14b. The pocket logger would be good too, but you will be wanting more fuel as you upgrade.

ok i got 300 dollars to spend on another mod i got mbc, injen intake, 16g turbo, solid motor mounts, act light flywheel, and exedy stage 3 clutch. my car is a fwd i was think about solid upper intercooler pipeing but i want somthing that will make a good difference for the price. i got a turbo xs bov that i would switch to a 1g if i got solid pipeing?

upper ic pipe is defently nice to have but you won't see a huge improvement, plus if you ever descide to go short route fmic, that pipe will be useless. If it was me I'd spend it on fuel system upgrades and logger combo, so you can turn up the boost abit.

The fuel kit comes with an AFC, so I would recommend 550's. The logic being, with 660cc injectors you will get a ton of timing advance that you can't control which will lead to knock. For your setup, it doesn't sound like you'll exceed about 90% IDC on the 550's (~36 lbs/min at 11:1 AFR w/ pump gas).

If you ever think you'll go to a mid-sized turbo or even an Evo III I would look into alternate forms of compensation (chip, DSMLink, etc) and then step up to at least 660cc injectors.

I would get injectors and a chip. 550s 660s whatever you can get a deal on then buy a chip set for them from dsmchips. Another thing to think about is a fuel pump or at least rewire your stock pump.

Hehe, if he gets a logger he'll find out stuff wrong that will cost a more than $200 hehe.

one thing i have definatly learned is to shop around. I know you only have $300 but i doubt you can get a afc and injectors for that price. the sb kit comes with choice of injectors, walrbo 250, and the S-AFC II for $646 with 550 cc injectors going up to $690 with the 750. Extremepsi.com has a fuel kit with s-afc II, walbro pump of choice, 190,255,255 hp, and choice of injectors ranging from 550-780 7 choices. plus with the bare minimum of a 255 and 550 cc injectors it is only $575 and to up the injectors it comes out to an average of like $629. plus they do free shipping :thumb: http://www.extremepsi.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=16346&cat=458&page=1

just trying to save you some money ;)

I am running 16 psi on the car right now. Can't turn it up anymore because I get knock. I have $300 and I was wondering what the next upgrrade should be for my car. All my major current upgrades are listed in my profile.

Thanks,

Save the $300 and find out why your knocking. I don't think you should be based on your profile.

Knocking is usually due to not enough fuel. But it looks like you should have pleanty to cover it. Try running some logs and find out whats going on, but you shouldn't be knocking on 16psi.

I say save the 300 for something cooler.

SS autochrome fmic that will help with the knock! It is well worth it I promise plus it makes your car look great.

This has everything to back up why it's such a great buy:

His profiles shows he already has a FMIC.

I would get a new knock sensor.

I'm having problems with my timing being pulled and I had it confirmed with a dyno that I wasn't knocking and my a/f is good. All things have lead to my knock sensor. I'm just waiting to put it in when I do my clutch.
