@ Boost, Should I take out the plate and everything that is bracing the linkage to get it sanded down?

Ill start ripping into her. But to be honest, im not sure what ill do with the car if its a lost cause.

After this winter, once work picks up and I get my raise bonus, I may find a clean shell and swap everything over.
 
That's kind of what im thinking.

The car runs extremely well, and is pretty much all stock. I think that ill drive her until its just not safe enough, then find a clean shell and bring another DSM back to life. Hell, even if I find a 2ga, ill have all the body parts to swap it over to a 2gb.

By that time, ill have some cash flow for a project anyway.

Eastwood make a great product that stops the rusting. Then spray there coating on it to seal it all up. Ive used this product while building my 1948 Chevy pick up and it works great. Cut out the rotted through parts like others have said. also make sure u have no fuel in the tank while welding in new sheet metal or u may not have to worry about fixing anything anymoar. I also used spray in bed liner on the underside and floor of my cab to weather proof it. You will nvr have to worry about rust again.:thumb:
 
May the force be with you. That will not be a fun project. Cut the ass end off of another car and slap that on there. I did it with my Honda Del Sol when I was going to put a transtop on it. But I cut the back half off....but never put another one on.
 
Ive decided to save up for a nice AWD. This car will stay my DD for awhile or until its not safe anymore. If that point comes, ill have a perfect parts car, which is a nice thought.

Im getting a nice raise/bonus in the next 5-6 months, so then ill be looking for a Spring/Summer fun ride. GSX is calling my name.
 
On the Surface rust scrap or sand it a bit to get the scales off and POR 15 it. Awesome stuff expensive but really works I use it alot here in New england....Salt country.
 
our body shop uses por-15 . all you have to do is remove all the lose rust or repair a really bad section and then paint the stuff on . maybe a sand blaster would be better . the stuff stops the rust from spreading really good stuff but very expensive. its like 40 dollars for a quart. don't recommend spraying it because you don't want it in your lungs and its hart to take off your hands .

Ill keep fixing and working with mine little by little. Gets bad enough ill get creative with some tube work and say goodbye to the street.

Ive had great luck fixing surface rust by sanding it down and spraying it with rust converter paint. Supposedly garaunteed to turn any left over pits, nasty stuff, into a clean sandable, paintable surface. And its garaunteed for 2 years! Also much cheaper than other chemicals and coatings such as POR 15.

Do you recommend any specific brand of rust converter paint? I may try that before I go the cut and weld route
