So my car is making some more sounds, weirder ones. It starts as a metallic rattling, then begins to sound like a spinning disc against metal, and ends off sounding like a terrible grind. I happened to take a video of it today as it showed u randomly after a few months of silence. It starts up pretty randomly and stops just as suddenly. It used to stop under boost but it doesn't anymore. Here ya go, any ideas on what this might be? Ill be pulling the tranny next week to do a clutch change so Ill hopefully find the problem then.

** It gets a little high pitched ! **

Am I right that the noise ceased when the car stopped in the 2nd video? So it is vehicle speed related, not engine speed related?

Wow! Thats a horrible noise. Dont know how you can stand driving it!

Interested to see what you find in relation to this. I have no suggestions at this point.

Check the alternator bracket and the power steering bracket. If the bolt comes loose from the block the arm can touch the power steering pulley.

Thats a good idea! Ill check the bracket. And no its not a pad wear indicator. I bought new brake pads so I'll be switching them soon anyways.

Its usually not this bad. It started out as a minor dinging occasionally, but the day I took this video it was horrid. Ive parked it till I figure this out

You said it stops when the car stops (no forward motion but engine still running) so I thought it can't be the engine. However you never know -try reving it up while stopped both with clutch in and out (to eliminate clutch/tranny). Also while moving but with clutch in and also in neutral.

So I took it for a drive and it didn't screech at all. So I decided to put it on jack-stands anyway and get under it. I noticed my exhaust hanger was a pointing right at the driveshaft and the driveshshaft had a strip around it polished clean. So im 90% sure the exhaust hanger is the cause of my problems! Ive cut it off, hopefully the sound stops completely!
