TD04HL...Answer to where this turbo came from?

I have looked almost everywhere to the answer of where the turbo TD04HL (S# 49189-02500). This topic has been discussed and discussed but no one came up with a comclusive answer. I think This will help... The engine i bought was A/T, had green top injectors (sorry not sure how much they flow), the valve cover has a Titanium color. The engine fit a 2g almost perfectly, except it had no A/C, the oil pan was different, among with other little details... the exhaust manifold is almost the same as the stock 2g. I have read in Saab sites that the turbo flows much like a T-25...this cannot be any of the turbos that stealth316 claims it is from, first of all because they say they have integrated bypass valves...and i have read integrated bypass vavles came from volvos... i am not the only who has a TD04HL withouth a B/P Valve. According to this article, the turbo does not exhist...And they list alot of turbos for ALOTTTT of different applications. I hope some one can put an end to this question...remember green injectors, turbo seems like it'd have to use some type pf J-pipe to be used with a 2g, Titanium color valve cover...Some one put an end to this and tell us where our engines came from! How reliable are they? What are the potentials of these injectors, turbo, and other parts?!

My mechanic did the swap...hes really good he made his old buggy turbocharged with some european engine LOL
 
I used all the mounts off the old engine, the transmission must be narrower than the 2g tranny. I tried hooking up each mount seperately but still the same thing.
 
I believe that there are different turbos with the TDO4HL housing on it. Reason being yours is single finned and when I took mine off it was dual finned and mine also came with 390cc injectors.

There are many TD04hl just like there are many TDO5's. There is TD04HL-9b, 13g, 13t, 15g, and 15t. I know the TD04HL-13g is off the jdm engine, also there are some 13t's on the 7 bolt jdm's. I'm not sure about the 15g, he should post a pic with the serial # to make sure its a 15g.

I know this is an old thread but the guy never got the actual answer and this may help people in the future. (Also I don't get the problem with reviving old threads). Anyway, the "TD04HL 49189-02500" turbo comes on the 1991-1995 Mitsubishi RVR, 2.0L 4G63T vehicle. The RVR is basically the JDM version of a Space Runner or an Eagle Summit but on steroids (AWD, too).
 
Funny this thread came up because I recently acquired a rebuilt/balanced td04hl 15t turbo off a Saab/Volvo. Wanted to swap exhaust housings from the t25 to the 15t since I thought they had the same turbine wheel but it doesn't exactly work. I know 3k gt guys want to upgrade to these but anyway here are some pics of it

Funny this thread came up because I recently acquired a rebuilt/balanced td04hl 15t turbo off a Saab/Volvo. Wanted to swap exhaust housings from the t25 to the 15t since I thought they had the same turbine wheel but it doesn't exactly work.
If that turbo was previously-rebuilt, it has definitely been run since and the compressor nut shows no evidence of being removed in the last decade or so with as much rust is on the threads. At best you have a used 15T core from a Saab.

As I'm sure you've already found out, you absolutely can't intermix turbine housings between brands let alone the plethora of different turbine wheel sizes used in a specific series of turbo. A DSM TB2566 (T25) turbine housing fits a Garrett TB22/TB25-series bearing housing only.

Regardless, there are four different MHI TD04 turbine wheels (TD04, TD04H, TD04L, and TD04HL) and three different possible TD04 bearing housings depending how the flange fits into the turbine housing depth-wise. The chance that you'll luck out and find a drop-in "upgrade" for whatever your application may be using a random turbo in the TD04 lineup is pretty rare.

Those were just pics from the builder before it was rebuilt on my old phone.

And yeah it was saddening to find that out. I also assume its not as easy as just honing out the housing to fit the turbine wheel either. Thats all that looked like that needed to be done honestly.
