My Talon is a 1g automatic fwd car. It has a TD04HL turbo that has a stuck waste gate. This may be why my motor blew up a month ago. Anyways the motor is being rebuilt and I was wondering if I should stick with the TD04HL or switch to a 16G. I have seen some 16Gs on Ebay for less than five hundred dollars. Since after the engine rebuild five hundred dollars will be all I have left would putting the 16G on be wise. If so would I have to upgrade the injectors or fuel pump, also is the ecu compatible meanning will it read proper air fuel mixtures. Any help on this would be great.

You will need a fuel pump for sure and a logger wouldn't be a bad idea. A 16g can be run on stock injectors if the boost is kept low, but it won't perform to it's potential. The ecu will be fine as well. I wouldn't suggest getting a 16g just yet if you don't have the money for supporting mods. Plus, it will be a better idea for you to break in your new motor with an old turbo to keep metel shavings from getting into a new one. Just make sure the wastegate isn't stuck before you put it back on.

If you plan on getting a 16g though, you can get an Evo3 16g for $530. Saving up an extra $30 for this will be worth it.

The waste gate on my current turbo is stuck , I have not taken it off yet to inspect it, but what would cause it to stick. I have checked the waste gate actuator and it is fine. The waste gate just won't move. Is this known to happen and how do you fix it. thanks

Are you sure its safe to run on the stock injectors? If my memory serves correctly, the Auto-1G's come with smaller injectors than the M/T 1G's.

I know, I just meant that he could technically just put the turbo in with a pump and logger to see where he could safely run it for the time being until he saved the money for supporting mods(injectors, ect.). He most likely won't be able to get too far on a 16g with 390's. That's why I suggested not upgrading the turbo until he has the money for supporting mods.

OK your going to have to get bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump, logger, somthing to control the injectors. Also the water and oil lines on the 13g are to small and the hardware is different. You'll have to get new water and oil lines, banjo bolts, and crush washers.
