TCU questions...

Are TCU's transmission specific or are they vehicle/generation/ecu specific? The reason i ask is because the F4A33-1 transmission is shared amongst a lot of vehicle platforms. And I believe my TCU is the problem behind my transmission issues. Can I use a 1g GS TCU in my 1g GST?

Whats the transmission issue? Is it starting off in 3rd gear?

the problem is that when i start the car and shift from park to reverse/drive it doesn't go into gear. Occasionally it will go into reverse on a cold start up but rarely....i thought maybe it could be the TCU but my reverse lights come on when i go into reverse....could it possibly be a trans pump or could this be related to another issue...

But reverse works perfect when it does engage

I had the same problem with my auto in D and it was the TCU. Try to put it in first instead of D. And TCU's are all different between non-turbo, turbo, and AWD. They will all plug in but all have differnt #'s. And you have to use only 90-91 because 92-94 with not plug in.

Also I was able to find one and Advanced Auto. It was a rebuilt one, comes with warrenty, cost less than 200 dollars. You have to go in though, they don't have them listed on the web site.

Actually it depends..There are 2 port and 3 port tcu's..I don't know what years are different, But I'l take a shot and guess the 89-90 with the 2 plug..

My 92 and someone I knows 91 has the same tcu..So it's either the 89-90-or the 92.5-94..

It won't go into anything but reverse on the rare occasion it even does that...and I though it would have to be a 91-94 nothing older than the year of the car

not true 90-91 have 3 plugs. 92-94 have 2 plugs. Feel free to look it though. Also before you waste money and time pull the TCU fuse in the fuse box under the drivers side. This will send the tranmission into safe mode. Then put it in gear. If it is the TCU you'll know.

Read m edit..It's gotta be 6 bolts then with 3 plugs and, 7 bolts with 2 plugs..
