Tapping sound / Whirringish sound

Well, my car has a tapping sound under the hood at all times...i think maybe the valves may need to be adjusted but it is consistantly tapping. What else would this be? Also, sometimes right after i have started my car, exit my driveway/wherever i'm at and hit the open road, if i get on it, the turbo spoiling up is coupled with a higher pitched sound...i dont really know how to explain it but it only does it once in a while....I'll try and get a sound clip up here tommorow. I'm thinking of just taking the car in for a full tuneup...i think its due time...how much do they usually run?

Possible cause of tapping:

hydraulic lifters clogged
bent valve hitting the piston (bad!)
really dirty valves with carbon buildup not allowing them to close fully
bad injectors
crank trigger plate hitting the sensor (crankwalk)
exhaust manifold leak

possible cause of turbo squeeking:

exhaust leak - bad gaskets
bad bearings - compressor or turbine wheel scraping the housing (bad!)

I just dropped off my car at the dealership for a similar problem - I'll post what they find out - and how bad.....
