tach won't work when it's cold??? HELP!!!!

does anyone know why my tach won't start working till the car is warm????? when i start my car up when it's cold, the tach doesn't work........ the needle keeps going up as i give it gas in each gear to about 3500 rpm and doesn't go down... after about 5 mins of driving it starts to work but is slow to respond ( if i push in the clutch it takes a while for the tach to drop sown to 950 rpm)........ soon enough the tach starts working and it is all good!!!!!! i kind of like knowing what i rev , any help would be appreciated

what type of gauge are you useing, is it stock or aftermarket?

i've had the same problem with my car's stock gauge since i bought it. subscribing.

Its just the stock gauge

Had the same problem in my laser. I ended up swapping a power transistor just for a test and it cured my no tach problem.
