ive been haveing a problem with my tach on my 92 gsx. when its cold it does nothing some time it goes up then gets stuck and when it seems like it working fine you hit 5000 rpm and just stops and falls back any suggestions?

to me it sounds like you should check the pickup( where it is i don't quite know.) start at the pick up with some form of tester. then if that doesn't work i would investigate the cluster. see if you could test yours or use a different one in place of it.

as i said i am a noob. but i do have some background with automotive repair.
