Sorry this is kinda long, but please read if you think you may be able to help me out...

Ok so i just recently discovered the my t-25 was bad and was making the car run like ass. So i decided to finally install the T3 turob kit i had sittig in my garage and put it to good use.

after everything went in. this is what i have on the car
T3 turbo 60 trim
720cc injectors
walbro 255 fuel pump
SAFC
AVCR
iridium plugs gapped down w/ wires
new custom 4" intake
3 inch exhaust turbo back
stock internals and everything like that

Now im not planning on running a mosterous amount of boost or anything. i just want a better turbo for future planning and i want a fun car to drive. thats all really.

My problems are that i have everything installed and only minimal amount of tuning experience. I know how to use everything (SAFC, AVCR, etc) but with this setup im just not sure as how to tune it properly. I got the car to start up, but holy crap is the idle and such rough. wont rev past 4K rpm and wont even spool the turbo. i can hear it trying but thats it... no boost.

I have adjusted the SAFC for -20% (cause thats where i had to put them for the car to actually idle and not die) and the boost controller is turned off. So i shoudl be running off the wastegate spring ( right? ). im not worried about tweaking the boost controllr right now, my main concern is to get the SAFC tuned and running good so that i can actually drive the car.

ok well thats where im at right now. I am pretty sure all my lines are hooked up right and my vaccum lines are good. i already did a compression test and got good results and i know my timing is fine. other than that the only thing that may be effecting it is the MAS. i remove the honeycombs for teh sides and screwed the adjuster screw out flush.

other than that im lost now. so if you can please help me out.

thanks,
Chris

the car will not go past 4k because it is toooooooo rich...

I have a semi-similiar set-up but with a big 16g (same as your t3 potential wise)

the ONLY reason I am keeping the 720cc is because my plans are a HUGE turbo.

to get it to run okay heres what I had to do:

hack the Maf - remove side/bottom honey combs
use a 1g fuel pressure reg. - and drilled out the entrance hole much larger than stock for slightly better flow, lowers base fuel pressure.
set the afc to -15% lo throttle -20% - -35% hi throttle

it is still hard to get started but once it is warmed up some it runs fine. and isn;t rich anymore. without all the above mods I had the afc at -50% hi throttle and it still shot black smoke out the back it was so rich. you need to fix it quick because you are allowing fuel to get into the oil which can dry out the bearings and cause them to spin.

too rich huh? crap. i had it set at 40% low and 25% high when i first started playing with the setting, but the car wouldnt idle for nothing, so i just started it up and let it idle while adjusting the lows, then it started idleing decent enough to not die and i left it. i believe its at 20% now.

your saying 15% is better then. maybe i will try that. and by what you said raising the high will help out with the revs? i will try that also.

and also do you think it would be better if i put the honeycomb sections back in? i know the car ran like crap the last time i did that with the factory turbo. maybe that would help out my idle issue a bit.

and as for the injectors. i just got them cause most people say that they will go as high as i want for HP. so they are a great future expantion size. u think i should go with something like 660cc or something?

thanks for your help. and also any additonal help is much appreciated.

thanks,
Chris

the reason your idle is so crappy is because the computer expects to see a certain airflow at idle and by taking the honeycombs out it doesn't see that amount and flips out.

here is about what my settings look like.
low:
1000 = 0% - the idle will be really bad for a minute but it will adjust itself out
2000 - 7500 = -15%

high:
1000 = -10%
2000 = -15% -no boost no reaon to go lean
3000 = -20% -hits full boost around here
3500 = -25% -\
4000 = -30% -engine needs more fuel right in this area it is where the most torque is
4500 = -33% -/
5000 = -35% - like this out to 7500

although I have not done any dyno tuning with it yet the plugs stay in good shape
but also like I said I am running slightly lower fuel pressure so for a 2g fpr the values would be lower than this

and on a side note I got 27 mpg on the last tank of gas I used!!!!!!

thats with a walbro 255, 6-an SS fuel line, denso 720cc injectors, running 23 psi most of the tank!

woohoo and now the new problem! MY CAR WONT START. For some freakin reason my SAFC and my AVCR both stopped working and now my car wont start.

YES !! I love it. makes a guy so happy. LOL

anyway, what the crap would make both units stop working. All i know is tht i currently have my o2 sensor out cause the stupid thing didnt work, so i had to order another one, and the plug that connected my AVCR to the control solinoid under the hood is messed up so i had to soder the wires back together (they might be messed up).

I checked every freakin fuse i could find and they are all perfect. unless i can figure this out my next step is to remove the 2 units entirely and start over with them to make sure they are still good. and... i really dont want to have to go that far.

so help me out fellas, and ladies of course.

Thanks,
Chris

i have done a lot of searching and come to find that this could be a problem witht he ECU. it is possible that my units arent workign cause the ECU isnt letting them get power to the car. thus causing my car not to start. i am now in the process of trying to find a new ECU for my car. hopefully that will work.

chris

Supermac, the cannot rev above 4K thing is most likely your S-AFC not wired in properly. When I first tried to install my S-AFC in my DSM that same thing happend to me.. I forget if it was improper soldering or if I got a couple wires backwards. (I know theres 1 wire you cut in HALF and then splice TWO wires coming from the SAFC to it) <-- could be that. After I re-did it all it idled and ran fine.. Hope this helps.

Ralph

i know its not the wiring cause i had the SAFC running fine for about 6 months on the car. it didnt start running bad until recently. i noticed that the turbo was pretty shot, and decided to replace it. thats when i started running into problems.

now im all done and have the new turbo, injectors, & pump in. but the damn thing wont start. only thing i could figure was that a shorted out the ECU somehow when i was messin with tires under the hood.

** had some problems getting the correct o2 sensor, and also a plug (nder hood, going to boost solonoid) for the AVCR was bad so i reconnected a new one (thats prolly what messed the ECU) but im not sure.

and so far from what i have read, if the car wont give a CEL when the key is turned on, then that means the ECU isnt sending out signal and is most likely not functioning properly.

This then causes the car not to start... right?

oh well, i figure this car is retarded anyway, its going to give me problem until the day one of use finally just dies. LOL :D gotta luv mitsu-squishies right.

Ill try an ECU swap and see if that works. If not, its off the bride for the damn thing.

thanks,
chris

ok well, i tried an ECu swap an nothing. still wont start. turns over...but wont start.

so at least its not the ECU. problem is what the #### is it. its starting to make me angry now. damn DSM's LOL

i will be checking out my fuel pump later and see if that may be it. perhaps its faulty or something. i know its a walbro 255, but for some reason it didnt fit just right and i always had my doubts about using it. i hope that is the problem. its easy to fix.

also i am starting to think it may be a fusable link someplace. people have said to check. but i have checked every fuse i could find on the car and they are all just fine. are there any hidden fuses that perhaps i dont know about? if anyone has any info please let me know. its important that i get my car running again. i need it, all i have now is my street bike. and winter time doesnt like bikes. :(

i know alot of you out there are way more experienced than i am. so please help me out here. any info is helpful. so post any you can offer.

thanks,
chris

The following is not related to your starting problems.

Reinstall the honeycombs into your MAF. Then, follow the tuning guides on this site to get the car running properly.

the honeycombs have already been replaced. i did that back when the car was running. they were out only for a short while. then it idled horribly so i put them back in. then all this crap with not starting happened on me.

it pissing me off too. cause i thought it was the ECU im not getting the ussual CEL when i first turn the key on. so i figured ECU when bad.

but nope. ECU is fine and still no CEL. also the only thing not working in the car is my SAFC and my AVCR units. they were working before, so why arent they working now. i cant figure it out. i have even went through and rewired everything (safc and avcr related) so i know im not getting any bad connections or anything.

i am going to swap out to my factory fuel pump here shortly. i dunno maybe that is causeing a problem. the one that is in there it messes up anyway. i think it was for the wrong car or something cause i had to make it fit a little. didnt sit to nicely in there.

anyway, if anyone has any info im glad to hear it. any help is better than none at all.

thanks,
chris

i already know how to tune the units. i have used them in the car previously. the problem is that the car wont start. and my safc and avcr units wont turn on. also im not getting a CEL when i turn the key on.

thats what i have to figure out. i have tried an ECU swap, but for all i know it could also be bad. i supposedly came from a working 97 gst, but who knows odds are its dead too.

thanks,
chris

Have you made sure your SAFC is reading in Karmans?

I would also check out the taps if you used those I know mine came loose when I installed them and had to redo a couple of them.... It definitely sounds like you are hitting fuel cut.. so just begin leaning out the car a little while you drive around... Like remember when fuel cut hits and then sit in a parking lot or at home and mess with it... Don't lean it out too much or BOOM... It is probably easier for you if you had an EGT gauge. or get a data logger.

And for the DSMlink comment you don't know anything so stay out of this. That comment had no significance, we are looking for tuners opinions here don't jump in the ring without the boxing gloves on.
