i need to slip the t-belt off the crank sprocket(dont ask!!) but how exactly do you loosen up the belt? from what i've read, you lossen the center tensioner bolt, and insert allen wrenches and move the tensioner? which way do you turn it? and do i really need to set the auto tensioner after? i only need the belt off the crank sprocket for a few seconds to set the crank timing marks...

now if you really want to know why.i was changing my crank pulley, and my dumb ass thought you had to removed the large center bolt, when in reality the 4 smaller bolts is all it took.so anyways i was trying to loosen the center bolt and i made the belt skip a few teeth. :coy: stupid me!!!! thanks for the info though

loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and then slack will show up in the belt, after that remove the hydraulic tensioner assembly completely, fix your belt then reassemble, compress the hydraulic tensioner in a vise, stick a small allen wrench in the hole in the tensioner body when the hole in the body and the hole in the rod line up, then bolt the tensioner back onto the car. after its on and everything is pre-tensioned by turning the tensioner pulley toward the right, then remove the allen wrench from the tensioner body to release the auto tensioner. there is much better instructions for the method in the shop manual, or on www.vfaq.com DEFINATELY go to one of these or both to get the right information before you even try to do the job. and YES you MUST reset the tension after removing the belt. :nono:

It would be MUCH simpler to use the Allthread Tool to depress Tension Rod enough to slide a pin / small Allen Wrench in the Tensioner Rod & Tensioner Body, then loosen the Eccentric Pulley to relieve Belt Tension.
