Hi I'm thinking about buying this 16g off a kid in my town. I don't think he knows a ton about it though. He says it's a super 16g and has no play in it. The only problem is I can't tell if it's a real one of not. I know you can usually tell by the compressor housing but this one seems to be totally smooth to me. I was wondering if anyone on here could tell with the picture provide.

Looks like ebay 16g, I would pass on the offer unless he wants like $50 for it. Keep eyes out for mhi 16g with serial numbers to boot and check for shaft play is what I would do.

Well there is another guy offering me a Evo III 16g but he lives like 2 hours away. They are both asking $300. The guy offering the evo316g though sent me a pic and the serial said 49178-01 47 0. And if I remember correctly this a legit e316g serial number.

I would see if can meet like half way or something but do it right on your dsm don't waste money and time on cheap ebay stuff other wise your car won't be happy and you won't with the lack of the performance. I would jump on the evo3 16g best choice of your life. All you need to do after you get the 16g is save up for walbro 255, front mount intercooler, ecmlink and bigger inejectors. That should set you for awhile. But I would just get a bigger fuel pump (walbro 255) for now to run with the 16g you get.

He won't meet me I've already tried. He said it does has some side to side play but that's normal with journal bearing turbos. I think I'll go with the one I know for sure of though.

Well its up to you what you wanna do. I just know you will make good power with the evo 3 16g and it will last alot longer then that ebay 16g. No telling how long those ebay ones will last or even make good power. But for $300 thats up to you just my .02 cents.:thumb:

Not sure how you can say it looks like an ebay 16g. They have a tag as well except they CLEARLY say turbocharger on them and look very generic. The one the op posted a pic of looks like its a MHI cover thats been shaved and polished. The covers are interchangeable so another way to tell is the waste gate actuator will be adjustable and the turbine housing will have .70 a/r on it. If it has either of those it would be an ebay 16g. I believe Hahn made a super 16g. I'm not sure what was "super about it but that would be a legit turbo. You could do a search for a super 16g and see what they look like.

I believe the Hahn 16g had a 10cm housing which made them very laggy. I think traveling the 2 hours and getting what I know for sure is a Evo316g would be the better choice. Even if it does have a little play I'm ok with it as long as it doesn't contact the housing.

Alright thanks for the input everyone. Evo316G it is.

Good choice with going with the evo3, I say this as better safe then sorry. For $300 make sure you get a real mhi turbo not any other hand craft one that can be made for cheap. Even tho it may look good and work many will tell you from exsperience the evo3 will not only be better but will preform from exsperience. So use the excuse to get the evo 3 to go for nice long fun drive.

How soon do you need the turbo? My brother.Bought a evo3 16g for 350 with 600 miles on it. No shaft play. If you are not in a rush take your time. Im sure you'll find a good deal somewhere around.
