just installed the hrc super 16g. i have crazy turbo lag  it starts to boost at 4k. help what could i do to reduce that.

you have a 10cm housing.. it will lag ALOT cause the 10cm housing is not needed for the 16G wheel.

anyway,
check for all boost leaks, check plugs/wires/coils, check compression... as far as i know the hrc super16g is supposed to hit full boost right around 4k???

my evo III hits full boost around 3.3-3.5k

Yea man sorry to say but that 10 cm housing will have all that lag on a 4cyl 2.0L...I *think* its a truck housing to tell you the truth. Anyway I'd say either live with it or cut your losses and sell it and get a 14B or SBR evo 16G. Also with your slight mods I think a bigger turbo was overkill, for the money a used 14B and some fuel upgrades/tuning would have been better IMO. Good luck with it tho, hopefully you can get the lag down some.

Hate to yank this up after 19 days or so.

But...

I have the HRC Super 16G as well. It can be a very good turbo for FWD folk who dont want to spin at all. The 10cm^2 housing DOES in fact come from a Mitsu Fuso truck. our cars just werent really made for it.

Plus if you're AWD and relatively stock like ME, its a very inneficient turbo. Most people dont even see full spoolup until 3800, on a GOOD tune. On my setup, i see the stock 9 psi at *4600*. you can tell how inneficient it is.

On a good tune, with proper supporting mods, on a FWD car, this turbo would be great. You are like me, and want full spoolup quick. I went and got a stock 14b with the 6cm^2 housing. I believe spoolup is around 2500-3000 rpms. Even a 16g with a 7cm^2 housing spools up at 3200-3300 rpms.

Sorry to speak it, but that's been my experience with this turbo..

I went from a ported and clipped 16g to the hahn super 16g and did notice that it spooled up a little slower than the p/c 16g. I also noticed massive improvements on the top end. Ever seen an auto fwd lay a 20ft patch @ 45mph? Love hahn, but wish I had a little faster spoolup.
