such a thing as too many gauges?

got a question.....my car has a gauge pod that fits in the little area behind the steering wheel....i have 2 gauges there: a boost gauge and a/f gauge. Now i just got a triple a-pillar gauge pod for free and my question is: is the 2 gauges behind the steering wheel and the 3 gauges on the pillar going to look bad? Like is it too much. I definitely want to keep the pod i have now, but i don't know....5 gauges?! what are your guys thoughts on how it would look. I plan on getting an egt, oil pressure, and one more i guess if i had to fill it.

I don't think you would say to many gauges, i would just say more than you really need. I mean five gauges is alot, and in my oppinion it would look kind of tacky/ricey, but hey if it's what you want to let anyone tell you otherwise. I know this is more of an oppinion question rather than a tech question so i'm just voicing mine. I don't think having that many gauges will hurt you car (if im wrong correct me), but i wouldn't do it just for personal preference (i have 3). So in conclusion, i wouldn't do it, but it's your car and if that's what you want, more power to you. Since you said you got it for free and you're from illinois, i'd sell it at AMS DSM dyno day in November. I'm sure someone there would be happy to take it off your hands.

Personal preference. Make sure the gauges that need monitoring are easily in sight (ie boost) With "too many gauges" you may take your eye off the road...But the advantage with getting aftermarket oil pressure, and EGT gauges, you get a more accurate idea of how your car is running. 5 gauges ain't that much....Just wait til you throw in a monster tach, fuel pressure, volts, temperature, oil pressure, boost/vac, and nitrous pressure

Yes. The factory oil pressure and boost gauges are pointless. An A/F gauge doesn't gage anything, and water and oil temperature are near as dammit to equal on a healthy motor. Other than a water temp gauge, the rest are essentially indicators as to why the motor blew, not that it's time to do something.
You can develop a water leak from a hose that'll be small enough to not cause damage if you spot a gauge trending up soon enough. But what do you do if the oil pressure gauge starts reading low? It's not likely to be lost slowly enough that you'll have anything you can save.
Don't get me wrong, I'm gadget-happy too. I'd like to know how many degrees the intercooler is removing. I'd like to know temperature rise across the main bearings, like they do in serious engines on ships. But that's just for playing. I'm more interested in knowing how many miles until I have to start looking for the next gas station.
I also don't like the "come and steal me" message of pillar gauges.

That or the "Please pull me over officer and anal rape me with tickets" I think their more strict in Canada in regards to engine mods though.

I myself am not satisfied till my car looks like a F16 cockpit,but thats just me.I have been staying away from a pillar gauge pods lately because both defiant and chiggz make good points.
