Such thing as a quick o2 housing install?

Hey guys I'm going to be putting in my o2 housing this weekend because AMS told me it was going to cost $324 dollars for them to put it in....... Anyway, I just wanted to know what the fastest way to intsall it would be, and how necesarry is it for the turbo and manifold to come off? My dad thinks we could do it without taking the turbo off but I said we probably will, so whats the deal guys?

If you can get off a stock O2 housing without removing the turbo or manifold, you truly are a ninja.

Done it 5 times now.
The only bolt that still gives me trouble is the PITA inner bottom one.

Much easier going on than off though.

On the 4th day of ownership of my first (and only) DSM, I removed the turbo and O2 housing and reinstalled them. It took me about 4 hours, most of that time was waiting for the engine to cool. Being that I make $10 an hour, I suppose I saved myself $280!

It really is easy, especially if you've got a vice and the proper sockets.

Then add ninja to my list of skills.

I used a 3/8 drive folding ratchet (it folds in right at the handle, go figure) and a deep socket. Might have to use an extension. Or you might have to pull the power steering pump. I didn't want to pull oil or coolant lines, and drain the oil or coolant, so I went for the lazy options.

I was installing an SSAutochrome dumped O2 housing, so the shape of it might have had something to do with which tools I could fit in there.

BTW, you don't need a set of mechanix gloves. Blood, grime, and scars are the trophies of real mechanics. What you DO need though, is a 12 pack of beer and two friends to make fun of you for owning a Mitsubishi.

Last answer, 3 bolts and 1 stud. Heat them up with an oxy-acetelene torch, until they're cherry hot. I broke a bolt before we figured that one out. And use gallons of PB blaster.

As of today, you can officially add me to the class of NINJA . I installed mine fairly easy. You just need the right tools and a 12 pack of Samual Adams, haha!

If you get a long extension and a good 3/8 swivel + socket, you can take it off without removing the turbo. I've done it more times than I can count. MAC/Snapon > cheap tools.

i failed, i tried to take it off today and then broke a bolt. now it's stuck in the turbo part and i gotta take it somewhere to fix up my mess... i guess i didn't heat it up or didn't use enough wd40 or pb-blaster

@ posting in a thread I posted in 2 years ago. Yeah, breaking a bolt off is definitely gonna throw a wrench in the works trying to get the 02 off without removing the turbo.
