Ok, I know everyone has their own opinions on what is the best/worst of car audio. However, here are my options, and I need some input on what would be the best.

I'm looking at either getting:

2 Alpine Type R 12's
or
2 Audiobahn AW1251T 12's
or
2 Memphis PR124D 12's

So what do you all thing would be the best.... This isnt going in my eclipse, I'm putting it in my girlfriend's 4 door car.... So keep that in mind too, that its going in a 4 dr, not a 2dr. Any suggestions??

If you want some sound quality and not just LOUD sound that sounds terrible. Don't get Audiobahn. I've personally listened to Audiobahn stuff, and every time ive heard it its been very loud but sounded terrible.

so what do u think between the memphis and the alpine then...? cuz i figured i would get audiobahn, but ive heard great about the alpine and the memphis subs i have listed.....

out of the two, i'd definately pick the type R's. The type R is an excellent sub for acurate reproduction. They sound awesome, but are not designed to be an output king. The memphis power reference series are the lower end of their line, and even though they are alright, they are nowhere near as accurate as the type R's. You will love the alpine subs!!

Which sub has the highest RMS rating, Xmax, Q, etc?

What are you going for, OMG rumble or Ultra Defined quality?

out of those subs i would say get the type r 12s my bro has them and they hit hard and dont distortyou wont have the loudest subs but they are good for just normal every day use.. do not get audiobahn no matter what they just plain out suck.. i have 2 15 inch boston acoustics in my eclipse alot of bass not as tight as some other systems but i like it now i just need better speakers so i can hear the words better LOL..

I have an Audiobahn 12" from their 2002 line. It sounds great actually. Just make sure its powered right. Also, it has to be their high end products. DO NOT get the low end shit. Audiobahn only made that to sell off at places like Circuit City. Mainly throw the name on a shitty product and it should still sell. But the Memphis subs are good as well. Look into them, I've never heard a complaint about them.

get 2 resonant engineering XXX and they will rumble and have good sq

agreed, but the sub is only as good as the box its in. dont get cheap on the box!! i suggest building your own if you can, prefabs i have herd sound terrible.

also depends where they are facing in your car, best to face em back

De-ja-vu.... Just get the Type Rs they are by far the best out of your choices. Audiobahn more of less sounds like crap to most people and more than likey to you also. PowerReference can not handle being beat on like the type Rs can. Just get the Type Rs and be done with it, no worries.

Have any of you guys putting down Audiobahn actually worked with and tuned any Audiobahn products? If you build your box correct, power your subs correctly, and then do proper tuning, Audiobahn (i better add 'IMO' here) is right there with JL Audio and other top brands, if not better. I will say that Audiobahn subs are a bit more picky when it comes to setting them up properly to sound good, but with the right setup they are excellant. I personally run 2x 10in AB FlameQs and an AB amp (forget the model number off hand) pushing 2000watts RMS (1000rms for each sub). Also know, I do not just go around with my music turned all the way up all the time so everyone can hear me. I listen to anytype of music and the box is built that way. Good for rock/punk etc.. also good for rap/hiphop etc.. I personally would not go with AB 12s though unless you just want to be loud. For really good quality, that CAN be very loud, 10in FlameQs are you best bet. Note that these are now the older models and you can get them pretty damn cheap now. I haven't had a chance to work with the new AB excursions so I cant comment on their quality. Im just sick of people bashing AB when most (NOT ALL please dont take this the wrong way) dont have a clue what they are doing or talking about. Any sub or set of subs can sound like shit if not setup properly.

Sorry for the long post, but I tend to get a little heated when I hear/see a lot of people bashing AB products. Im done venting now. Have a nice day :)

Oh one more thing, dont waste your time trying to put me down, cause I really dont care. Im not going to start a huge argument and jack up the thread. If you have an opinion, state it.

Crazykid,

Thanks for your opinion but Audiobahn is and never was a company focused on SQ. That is why most of their products are covered in chrome flames... I have been doing this a LONG time over 11 years, I sold their products for 3 years and have personal experience tuning/installing their products. It is true that a badass installer can make basically anything sound good... to the "average" customer, not someone who knows audio and has heard basically everything out there. Sorry if you feel bad that people bash the product you hold so dear.... BUT the facts are simple when it comes to the above stated woofers he is choosing from....

The Alpines are a much better woofer, period. I am not looking for a debate, there is no need for one. As long as you like your equipment that is all that you need to worry about. :thumb:

i think audiodahn are really good. most of the people that say bad things about AB never owned AB subs. right now i have 2 audiobahn 12 inch flame q subs. i do not have a amp to connect them yet. but the reason i got the subs i did was because of my friend he had one of these subs in his car and IMO it was one of the best sounding subs ive heard. i use to bash on audiobahn to before i heard them. but i think there gr8. if i were u i would go with the audiobahn.

yeah,

it's a fact that audiobahn is a company that focuses on "Bling" and being loud vs. being accurate. You're right, you can get an audiobahn sub to sound decent in the right enclosure, but that can only get you so much. A product with superior build quality and features will outweigh an average or subpar product the majority of the time.

There are different types of audio people. Some aren't very picky, and as long as their music doesn't sound bad, they don't complain. Then there's the people like me who are notoriously picky about the performance of their system. The picky people (true audiophiles) have never gotten any pleasure from audiobahn stuff. The older Alum subs were the best thing audiobahn made (IMO), because i've never gotten any good results to my liking from new audiobahn gear.

Those old school alum subs were pretty loud. Problem we found with them, is we used to push them with the power audiobahn recommended and just about put the voice coil through the cone. It would literally push the alum outward and just about rip through. Problem was, the cones were not made strong enough.

never owned AB, always refused to. had a guy try to give me a pair of their flame 12's once, i opted to keep my digital designs... i wonder why :p installed plenty of AB stuff, and have yet to come across one thing they make that impresses me even the slightest bit. an AB in the correct box might not sound absolutely horrible, however a boston, jl, alpine, DD, ID, etc in the correct box will sound 100x better. and the new boston acoustics subs have an incredible pricetag... 149 for a 10, 179 for a 12. they absolutely stomp alllllllllllll over the jl audio w3v2's and the alpine type R's.... for less money. very impressive sub for the price. and that is boston's "low end" (quite the understatement). wait until you hear their G5 series ;)

yeah, the alums i used to have, the coils came unglued from the cone.

I hate having an alum. cone subwoofer. I used to have a pair of alumapro alchemies, and within a few months, they somehow mysteriously got dings and dents all over them. The same thing happened with my audiomobile EVO's.
