sub box questions

i'm building a sub box just in case nobody knows what i'm talking about

its gonna be a sealed box, should i put ports in it. i like to hear bass as i mostly listen to rap. should i use that cotton stuff that they say helps?

if your talking about facing them in or out so you can hear them more, it does't really matter because they are non directional, but i like them angled in towards eachother

MY 10w7 is firing straight up at the glass. i have liked this way in hatches so the bas bounces right off the glass.

i was originally planning on building a box for 2 15" subs but i just found a 12" JL Audio sub in my basement. i tested it by hooking it up to my stereo and it worked but it didn't sound load at all but im thinking thats because it isnt hooked up to and amp and such. but my question is will 3 12's fit in my eclipse or should i got with my original setup? i'll post pics of the sub later.

this is the sub i found i just need to clean it up a little. it's got two clips to connect the wires to. one on each side. do i have to connect both of them? can i9 just connect one of them. any body got any info on them?

that looks like an old school 12 w3 and yes you will need to wire them up properly depending on how many you run and how many amps you have

do you think it would be possible to fit 3 12" in a sub box in the hatch? should i go with 2 15's instead?

I had three 12's in my hatch. But they were in a contained box. It was made by digital audio, can't find the site and don't really feel like goin out and taking a picture. But yes, it is possible if you have the right box.

The wave is so long, it does not matter where it's pointed.
Fiberfill will make the box behave like a larger enclosure.
In general, a sealed enclosure will make tighter, cleaner and lower bass but a ported enclosure makes for a more efficient system and will play louder for a given amount of power.

That's caused by phase cancelation: the output fron the front of the speaker and the read of the speaker are 180 degrees out of phase. Think of the front wave as a positve and the rear as a negative; when the two collide, they cancel each other out.
A ported enclosure is able to output this rear wave to improve efficiency by delaying it's exit from the port so that it is in the same phase as the direct radiation of the woofer.
As soon as you put the speaker in a box, the volume will go way up and it will produce much deeper bass.

Keep in mind though that a ported box is usually around 50% bigger than a sealled box + the port volume.
You have to actually calculate the right enclosure size, and proper port size for a ported box.

If you are willing to give up the entire hatch area it might be possible to fit 3 12".

Good point. I think that would be overkill and the resulting massive enclosure, either sealed or ported, would negatively impact the handling of the car.

IMHO a high excusion single 12 or 2 moderate excusion 12's will give you more bass than you know whatto do with, and "packaging" them will be much simpler

Systems and performance aren't usually found in the same sentance. Its like drag racing with 2 passangers...

Alpine 9835/PPI A600/Boston Pro/Image Dynamics. Stunning realism, effortless power in an AWD car that is full on race.
Doing both is easy but it requires you to plan.

ok so i just started building my sub box and all i need to do is put it together. should i put a spacer in between each sub? would it sound better? i had a box for 2 12's but since im getting 3 12's i had to make my own. the one i had had a spacer between the two subs.
