Ok so I'm hooking my starter back up and I'm having issues. I see 3 wires, a pos, neg, and small wire. I know the neg goes on the starter mounting bolt. The pos goes on the terminal closest to the firewall and the small wire goes on top. I did this and went to hook up my battery. When I connected the ground to the battery my starter started going. What's wrong here?:ohdamn:

Yeah go for it I'll let ya know

Oh to upload a picture, first save the picture on your desktop. Now go to a new reply and click on 'go advanced'. Once that loads, click on the little paperclip. Then choose the picture from the desktop and click upload.

Technically yes, but one of the two large terminals is already connected to the starter when bought brand new. So in otherwords, only two external connections are required for the back of the starter

OK that's the wire I don't know where it goes, hope the pics can help.

And I guess I have my starter connected wrong. I put 3 external wires going back there so I'm assuming and by the look of your diagram the wire I put on the left starter terminal is the one that goes connected to my bell housing bolt

I know the example picture is of a 1G DSM, but the negative battery terminals are the same style

In your case, the cable opposite the arrow runs to the starter mounting bolt. The one hooked to the terminal as of now, obviously runs to the firewall. They are both to be on the same (negative) terminal

Yup, the negative battery terminal splits off into two connections -one goes to the firewall -the other to the starter mounting bolt (bellhousing)

Make sure to fix the back of the starter up. If you hit the key in it's current condition, it will immediately pop a main fuse. It's like shorting the battery terminals together but luckily there is a fuse in this case

Hope you don't mind the pictures, it should help to explain a little more visually though.

I’m having the same issue to I’m confused…

My battery arced like crazy when I had this connected to the bell housing bolt and it made a welding sound at the starter when I plugged the battery in. So then I moved it to starter bell housing bolt and it still arched like crazy. I took that red and black wire and took it off and it didn’t arched at all and my car still wouldn’t start at all. I have the yellow and black cable hooked up next to that copper wire and the small black clip plugged in. I’m at this point from doing manual swap I’m really confused on what to do. Please help me

See the attachment in post 32. The cable connected to the right terminal of that starter solenoid (has the red insulator cap) should be the very large black with red stripe cable (NOT the black with yellow stripe wire). It connects directly to battery positive so is ALWAYS hot - be careful.

Since you've got a plastic insulator casing around the cable going to the bell housing I can't see what color cable that is. However the bell housing cable is supposed to go directly to battery negative and should be a large black with yellow stripe cable. It looks suspicious since you appear to have a black with yellow stripe cable going somewhere else. It almost looks like that black with yellow stripe cable should be on the bell housing (check to make sure it goes to battery negative first) and your existing bell housing cable goes somewhere else.

Note that battery negative should have 2 large black with yellow cables - one to firewall and one to bell housing (or starter mounting bolt preferred). What cable do you have on battery positive?

I just looked I have the red and black cable going to the battery so did I mix the wires up so the red and black cable goes to the starter post next to the copper wire and the yellow and black goes to the starter stud

The large black/red cable (ie. 4 gauge black with red stripe) goes from the battery positive terminal to the starter solenoid on the starter right post (post to the right of the post with the copper wire on it). Note: Connect the battery positive end last after all other wires are connected, since it will be hot (ie. has constant un-fused +12v on it and will be a direct short should it accidentally touch ground).

The starter signal wire is also a black/yellow but is a way smaller flexible 14 gauge wire with that push on clip that goes on the starter spade terminal. It is not that larger black/yellow cable you show in your post 35 picture (which looks more like the battery negative cable that goes to the bell housing or starter mounting bolt). And it does not connect to either stud on the end of the solenoid.
