I bought a GSX that had a STS turbo mounted in the trunk. The kid who designed it ran pipes all the way to the trunk and then ran the compressed air back in a pipe into the engine. Its quite an interesting setup. The problem I have is that the kid killed himself and now I have his car. It works, because the car is driveable if it was put back together, but I drive it around my yard once in a while.

A few questions for those who know better than me...
(1) does an STS turbo have any value? The kid supposedly spent thousands on this turbo but I don't think STS is in business anymore. (at least their web site said so) If so, where could I sell it?

(2) The kid who built this car had the RPMs governed at 4500rpm. Seems really low for a 4G63 with a turbo. Any idea why he might have done that?

(3) What kind of performance do you think I could get out of this? His father said 500hp, I snickered. I would guess 350-400 maybe.

Thansks in advance for any ideas!!

Pictures. pictures. pictures. I find it hard to believe anyone with a GSX that comes factory turbocharged would go through the trouble of running an STS setup. the only reason why STS was ever appealing was to the v8 guys or more specifically V8 SWAP guys that didn't have room in the engine bay for a turbo setup. It really fizzled out in popularity the past couple years. Remote mount turbo setups were a flash in the pan type of deal when everyone was going crazy with LSX swaps.

Maybe the 4500 is like a launch control that went away after a certain speed?

Exactly! Sounds like maybe it was using the speed sensor to activate/deactivate the launch control. Maybe the cable to the transmission isn't hooked up and the ecu thinks it's not moving therefore limiting the rpms as if it were sitting still, ready to launch.

Just for reference I can tell you that STS did not ever make their own turbos, so for what it's worth or how much power it will make would actually depend on the brand, size, etc, can't just say what's this STS turbo worth.

Now IMHO get rid of everything and start fresh.

PICTURES! I really doubt STS made a kit for DSMs, they were usually for non factory turbo cars. But I'm sure it would have some value, especially if it has a decent oil pump setup.

You are totally right, I had forgotten about the ability of the launch control in the ECU. I haven't actually driven it to the point where I could get it over 4500 rpm (kind of bumpy across my lawn), so that was just revving it. Which makes perfect sense as to why it stops at 4500. I"ll have to hook up my laptop to it and see what the ecmlink says.

Do you have pics and are you 100 percent certain you are driving a GSX? This sounds totally weird! Please post pics of setup would like to see

I've never seen one of these kits on a DSM - I remember seeing them at SEMA many years ago when they just hit the market. I'd be curious to see pics too. I can't imagine this being the most effective option for the DSM... but hey, it's still interesting. Sad to hear about the kid.
