Stroker Kit

hey, I have '97 TSI that just walked on me. I know there's a million threads on crankwalk but here me out. I was just thinking of biting the bullet and doing a 6-bolt swap, but I was reading the forums about stroker kits which increase the engine to 2.4 L but also come with new bearings, crank and pistons.

My question is would putting a stroker kit on a 7-bolt engine eliminate the crank walk problem? Or am I just missing something?

7 bolt strokers can crankwalk too. What are your goals for your car? What kind of turbo are you going to be running? Do you even need a bigger engine?

the new crank and bearings should eliminate the chronic problem with the 2g crankwalk should it not? I realize that technically any engine can 'walk but its fairly obvious that the 2g's stock parts are problematic. Really I only am looking for an alternative to the engine replacement. I want to sell the car cause I'm buying a house, but I can't with the crankwalk problem, so I'd probably keep it pretty much stock.

its the thrust bearing/design of it that makes them walk on 7bolts. So getting a stroker means it could still walk, its still the same thrust bearing, just new.

so what your saying is go for the 6-bolt swap because there's a good chance if the 7-bolt walked once it will walk again even with the new parts?

i dunno i looked at it this way...

the odds of getting CW are pretty low (not low enough not to happen to u and me, but still low),
the odds of getting it again after getting a new shortblock are even lower.

So I myself bit that bullet and got myself another shortblock from Mitsu. It is brand new, and I hope it doesn't walk on me anytime soon. Knock on wood, but i mean the odds are pretty damn slim.
