So I picked up a 16G, and found out after I was close to stabbing the new motor that one of the damn holes for the oil return line was stripped.

Should I just drill larger and tap it for a new bolt I suppose?

I'm going to try to get this fixed withOUT having to pull the turbo back off the motor, as it's got new gaskets and crush washers all over, I don't want to break it back down.:toobad:

What pisses me off the most is that I was making killer headways tonight, and I would have stabbed the motor and trans in the car if not for this damn stripped hole. :beatentodeath:

trust me you dont want to mess around with the turbo while is still on the car. i had experience like 2weeks ago , i posted a thread but deleted it . My (MHI)BIG16 oil return line bolt was broke inside , i had pics and everything. You cant drill the holes too big ,because there is a pretty thin wall where the bolt goes . Try to retap the same size , or a little bigger . Please dont try to do this while your laying under the car , especially tapping. That was my mistake , after all day working on ONE bolt , i had to bring it to the machine shop and the guy did it for me $10 :D Dont be afraid to go extra step and take that turbo off , you wont regret. Let us know how its going!!!!

Well, the motor and trans are on the cherry picker in front of the car right now, so I have easy access to the turbo. It looks like someone's already ####ed up the hole well enough that it's a bit enlarged already. I'll probably use the smallest bit I can just to clean up the hole, then chase it with a tap.

what a pain in the ass...

ya i kinda have the same problem. one of the oil return bolts is somewhat stripped and hopefully when i get a ss return line, ill be able to get it out. could i get a new bolt from home depot? the stealership says that they dont have any.

where could i get JUST a SS oil return line? or where can i get the pieces to make one for cheap?

Well I took the turbo off and got it on the workbench, turns out that someone already half assed re-threaded the hole. I got a bolt to work and hold it tight, but when they drilled it they drilled through the end of the threaded opening, so I had to use thread sealer to prevent oil from seeping around the bolt. Fortunately that saved me some time.

told you theres is a thin wall behind the bolt . Well since they drilled thru , do you think any metal piece could have fell inside ? and they threaded it too , there is no way preventing metal pieces falling inside when doing all that stuff , and my friend you dont want to run that turbo if theres metal inside.....
