Hi everyone

I have a 95 GSX 6 bolt swap which recently jumped time resulting in bent valves. I just finished fixing it and it's first start was today. She fired right up but there's a new sound coming from the timing side of the engine and I'm worried it has something to do with my oil pump but I really don't know. Also I should note, I removed everything except for the block and transmission while I was fixing the valves. I also didn't touch the oil pump or water pump since they were working completely fine prior to jumping time. I do have oil pressure, when I was spinning the oil pump to prime the engine before doing the timing belt oil came pouring out of my turbo feed line because I forgot to put it on, rookie mistake.

Everything else is working as intended after being put back together.

I should also note upon startup my alternator began smoking and getting extremely hot (it had a shower of power steering fluid when I took the lines off LOL). I do have a new one coming but it doesn't exactly sound like that's what the sound is.

If anyone can help point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it. The car won't be moving until I can fix whatever this terrible sound is.

Just in case, first I would check the timing belt tension and if the proper oil pressure arrives at the cylinder head.

BTW, this just means that you have oil flow. This doesn't guarantee you have the proper oil pressure.
Checked my timing tension and it was a lot tighter than it should have been, the pin didn't even go into the tensioner.
I set it properly and the sound has gone away.

Thanks everyone for helping me diagnose it.👍
Sounds like the Timing cover is rubbing the belt or oil pump gear slightly. Looks like you have more than a few bolts missing. Try removing cover and see if you still have the noise. Maybe the Timing belt belt is too tight?

This actually reminded me of a situation I had years ago. The nut holding my oil pump sprocket on somehow worked itself loose and disappeared (surely my error), and over a short amount of time, the sprocket wore a hole through the timing cover. Luckily my timing didn't skip, but it made horrible sounds I could never pinpoint until things failed (again my error). Would be a great spot to check for sure.
