Hey everyone, I'm a new member and still fairly new to the dsm world. A few months ago I got out of the honda scene and was waiting to get an MR2 until I got a great deal on a gs-t eclipse (got it free LOL). I've done alot of wrenching on it with the short amount of time I've had the car. I have done an AWD conversion (never again), 6 bolt swap fully built, and semi new interior out of a 99 gs. Now my issue is that I've been hearing a strange noise kinda like a loud hum or groan but it is at random. BTW the motor is ripped out and being refreshened and getting a new turbo setup. I just got back a couple days ago so when I heard it again I realized I had forgotten about it (its been a little more than a month). Any helpful advice would be appreciated. Thanks fam!

You cant actually expect a good answer with that post man. Wheres the noise coming from etc. Whats it sound like? Like me saying i heard a noise on my gsx, what is it guys? U see how broad that is? Just trying to help you get answers, not hatin.

I see what you are saying. I'll go back over and see if it makes the noise, its at random so it's kinda hard to tell where its coming from. It might be coming from underneath the car or possibly somewhere near the fuel pump. I just found it weird since everything is ripped out of the car at the moment (engine, fans, harness, battery, etc). But like I mentioned a little earlier I'll go look at the car and wait for it to make the noise again.

Is it while the car is on? What are you doing when you hear the hum? I have a similar problem in my 2g while the car is off. I'll hear a loud hum like air leaking into the intake manifold or something. It's weird, doesn't affect the car at all and it's only while the car is off.

@mitsmike @oneslowwdsm @Rich94 yeah everything is ripped out of the car. The battery, ecu, motor, suspension, everything. I ripped everything out to refresh my motor. I went by today and it seems like its relieving pressure from inside the engine bay somewhere honestly even my friends think that but it happens at random so I have to legit wait for the car to do it. It make take hours for that to happen. But I'll figure it out before I put my motor back together and let yall know. But thanks for the help anyway everyone. Sorry for the pointless thread.

I was going to say maybe evap test cycle but it could be the fuel expanding/contracting in the tank too. Twist the cap if it's on and see if it doesn't hiss.

My 2G always made a noise like that, even with battery disconnected. It would fade in, sustain the noise for several minutes, and then the pitch of the noise would change while the volume decreased until it went away. That noise is the fuel tank vapor pressure escaping through the charcoal canister... normal. The charcoal canister is an emissions component that captures raw fuel vapor so it doesn't escape into the atmosphere.

When you can, put a quick video of your car making the sound on youtube - we can confirm whether it's the charcoal canister after a second of hearing the noise :)

I'll try, as stated before it's random so its kinda hard to capture. But I haven't been around the car lately, been too busy. But I'll definitely try to capture something and post on YouTube.
