First of all, my car sometimes does not want to start. It will crank over but will not start. Its more stubborn sometimes then others. It will start within 15s of cranking, or at times it has taken up to 10-15min of cranking (with pauses in between). But when it does start, most of the time there is heavy black smoke. Like there was a ton of fuel or something. Take in mind, I do not give the car ANY gas at all when this happens. Doing that will not help in any way. Most of the time it just starts right up. I installed new NGK iridium plugs (didn't gap) and did a full tune up. Also.. there are times were it starts right up it sounds strange. I don't know how to describe it but it just does not sound regular. Take in mind I have a aftermarket muffler, but the car sounds almost like a subaru. Instead of running smoothly, it sounds more like prrrrPAPArrrrrpapapaprrrrrrrrrpapapaparrr. :cry: I am not sure how to describe it :)

And last issue is... my car sometimes simply dies on me when I slow down to an idle. I have the idle set to 900-1000sh... But it just dies. Its happened to me a few times, not too often. It will either start right back up, or start doing the problem I have described first.


Any clues? I replaced the throttle body, thinking that was the issue. It threw a CEL and showed a bad sensor... So I went out there and got a TB off anoter 4g64. This is still a big problem though. BTW, I'm thinking this problem might be correlated to my car running rich.

Fat injectors or something? I have no way to measure the injectors. I don't know what to do.
 
I will see if I can do a compression test tomorrow. Might not be able to but whenever I get it done I will compare results and post here. I will replaced the plugs tomorrow and also change the ignition wires too maybe. But the car started throwing two new codes now.

P 0115 : Engine coolant temp circuit malfunction

P 1500 : Manf Cntrl veh. spd. idle speed control aux inputs


Any ideas how to fix these?
 
seeing that your car is spyder then it has the 2.4 liter if im not mistaking. iridium plugs will work just fine.
 
or could be as easy as the throttle body being dirty and getting clogged up in that case you just have to take it off and clean it real good.
 
Well I returned the throttle body to pick and pull. It had one of the vacuum nipples missing. So I decided I mineswell get another one. I tried to pry off a nipple but it did not work. It was not too dirty either. As far as the plugs, I pulled them out and they are BLACK. Confirms the car is running rich. I got some new platinum plugs gapped at .28 to replace the iridiums. I will check the codes again tomorrow. But with no throttle body on the car, I can't turn it on or anything so. How do I check the idle control valve by the way? Where is it?
