stop lights from opening

Hey friends, Im sure this has been covered before but I cant seem to find it. Im probably using the wrong search words.

91 TSi pop up lights. I just replaced the relay for my pop up lights and realized that they open every time you turn the lights on regardless of the light pop button position. When the relay was dead i could turn them on and they would shine thru the little bezels. Any Idea on how to make them stay closed unless the pop up switch is pressed?

There is a mod for this, its a little white thing with 3 prongs, you snip one of them. Try 1ga head light mod.

If you just want it to stay like that you can unplug the headlight motors. But i would just go to the relay, find the trigger wire for it, and put a toggle switch between the supply wire and the relay. So if you have it switched on it will work as normal when you turn the lights on, but when you flip it off, they will stay closed.

On the passenger side up under the dash near the pass. kick panel behind / below the glove box you will need to find a small white square plug. It has three wires going into it and nothing coming out the other side. It is not out in the open you will have to find it, like I said it will be tucked up and taped but you will easily recognize it because it has wires going in and nothing coming out. When you find this you will need a very small screwdriver to pull it apart. On one side there will be a slit and a small nub sticking out , you have to push this in and up at the same time and a small square with three prongs will pop out the top. When this piece is removed you will be able to turn the light on and off with out the headlights popping up and down, if you want them to go up and down you push the light button on the left side of the steering wheel. You can stop the movement up and down while they are moving by turning the light on when they are where you want them to stop.

Well I started looking and have yet to find it, . I did find something that resembles a relay but it was in the open. Do I have to pull the glove box out or is it elsewhere.
