So here's the problem - cash flow being the way it is I don't have enough to do all the mod's I want at once. I really wanted to lower my car before I put a 3inch turbo back exhaust on, but since lowering well would cost about 450 and I seem to be obsessed with go fast goodies for the moment -

What stock like looking mufflers are out there ? (if anyone has pics please post)

Personally i think the apex n1 style looks awesome on a lowered car, but since mine won't be, I don't want it to look bad. Oh and btw, Yes I will be lowering it hopefully in the next couple months :D

thanks !

andre

*oh and if you have links or whatever feel free to post them

hey i dont have a link for it but a buddy of mine just picked up a magnaflow 3 inch exhaust and the muffler looks alot like stock, the only difference is the tips are bigger, but it still has twin tips! you should check into it, it sounds really nice, low growl

Dude! You live in marysville!

I live in Everett but my car is stored in Marysville. Im in the process of a evoIII 16g install, along with a 3" SS turboback and related supporting mods  . I got the bosal 3" SS catback exhaust shipped to my door for 320$ you should check it out at www.sfxperformance.com The only problem is that it has dual 3.5" tips.. Im hoping it wont look to obnoxious, if it does I will just have smaller ones welded on.

Well thanks for the replies fellas, but I think i've decided to go with lowering my car before other mods and since I'm planning on getting that, it really doesn't matter what kind of muffler I get (except for cheap and good quality :D)

and rowlex we should meet up some time - that is once I get my car running again

Any other system would be throwing sparks....

The cat back portion is only about $280-$290...

You don't need to weld to run smaller tips... Cut them after the Y where they flare out.... then put on 3" clamp on tips...

no problem, I actually did the same thing - lowered my car first. I origionally tried a set of coil-overs with the stock struts that I absolutely hated (I was told it was because of the stock struts (by stock I mean origional 90,000 mile struts ;) If you want them they are yours for 40$ (the coil-overs). The install was a piece of cake. I ended up spending damn near 900$ total on my new suspension setup (NEX 1-piece coil overs and camber kits all around). Where in marysville are ya? My parents place is off of shoultes road, pretty close to MPHS, that would be cool to meet up sometime, I dont know many DSM'rs in the area!

Damn that looks good MNGSX! I can't wait to install mine, I just had a muffler shop expand a piece of 3" stainless to slip over my DP and bosal catback, the only problem is that I think they made the center section a little to long, which seperates the downpipe and catback 1" extra. I may need to have them fix that. Do you think it will pose a problem? Thanks!

p.s. Thanks for the tip MNGSX (about just clamping the tips)

Scott

It will pose a problem.....

Mount the catback and dp w/o the connecting piece between them... measure the gap...

Measure the non expanded section of the connecting pipe...

Then measure the gap between the two halves..

1. Cut a little bit off the downpipe

or

2. Have the shop cut down the short pipe and have it expanded again on the end they cut from...

I'd do #2.....

BTW check out what I'm up to now

Just changed the link... was wrong

Damn! Thats one hell of a project, I hope you have fun building it :)

And thanks for the suggestions, I didn't even think of simply cutting my DP a little shorter.

I test fitted the turbo and downpipe on my car, what a PITA, so I plan on bolting the turbo + o2 housing to the downpipe and installing it as one piece, so I will have to do option #2.

I swear to god that I enjoiy the building process the most... I mean it's cool when it all comes together but then I get bored and miss having a project....

I live right behind the movie theatre. And I would love to meet a fellow dsmer in the area :D

As far as the springs go - what sort of coilovers are they? If they aren't ebay brand I will probably pick those up from you. Aim me @ adreane3984 or just pm me on here and let me know :D

rowlex did that catback come with that downpipe? also it is a true 3" all the way back? how does the car sound?

Dave_Hash, I have yet to put it on the car I ran into a problem when I was installing the turbo. I just got that fixed and will hopefully have everything installed by wed.

The catback did NOT come with a downpipe, I purchased the DP off of ebay for 160$ shipped. (Search ebay for Megan Racing 3" downpipe) Another friend of mine picked it up for 130$ shipped. The catback necks down really bad at the area it would naturally bolt up to the catalytic converter. I think I measured something like 2" opening. I don't care though I chopped off the flanges on both the DP and catback and inserted a slip-fit joint. I'll try to remember to post back after I get it all on about its sound.

On a side note, is that bosal exhaust a straight through can?
I have the N1 and love it but they're cracking down on exhausts that don't appear stock......not to mention louder than stock.
If so, I might look into something like that.
Thanks
