Stock Infinity Stereo Help?!?!

Hi,

i need some help with my Infinity upgrade stereo.
first of all the car didn't come with a stereo. whoever had it before me took his/her out.
i believe it was a aftermarket stereo and i think he had some subs in the trunk cause there are all these wires going to the back. it was a pretty shitty install i must say cause the wires are just lying on the carpe,t haha.
anyways... i bought the infinity upgrade stereo, hooked it up, got the code and it works.... but there is no sound coming from the speakers!!!!!! i looked at the back of the deck to see if i plugged everything in, it all looks alright to me.
i can hear the CD being read by the player, i go to AM/FM and i still get no sound. haven't tried the tape but i assume it the same thing.. no sound.
so i have no clue whats going on. can anyone help!?!? point me in the right direction.
i'm going to take a picture of the back of the stereo to show you all if i connected it properly. i just need to buy a new battery for my digi cam.
so if anyone knows what the problem is, please do help!!!!

the 2g infinity head units had an external amp mounted under the pass. seat! make sure its there and hooked up right!

yup and i think anytime someone puts in an aftermarket head unit you are supposed to disconnect the stock amp.. btw anyone know how big that amp is off the top of their head?

Apparently not. I've heard guesses in the 15~20W range. If anyone has any information on the Infinity sound system, please tell us.
For some reason, factory radio specs are details that just don't get out.

The amp is about 20w rms (if u know what that stands for) pero channel. Now, if an aftermarket deck was installed before, chances are the stock amp was or was not unplugged but it was rewired. Some infinity stock systems work directly with the aftermarket equipment and some don't. The size of the amp is about the size of an ecu. Its black and should have two plugs, input and output. Check if the speakers are factory. If they are not, the amp has been rewired somewhere. I say this cause i did it myself to my ride. Also, another way to find out if its an infinity system is if the was a changer in the rear. It's kinda a crazy setup but let me know if u have any other ?'s. I worked for circuit city so i'm familiar with this. haha. Hope this was helpful.

That's not entirely true. The stock infinity amp is about 20 watts per channel at rms, but you won't be able to determine if the amp has been bypass by checking the speakers. That amp is a 4 ohm stereo amp and can be run with any kind of aftermarket speakers. You may have gotten the infinity and the bose system mixed up that runs 1 ohm speakers instead of 4 and then you would have to bypass the amp in order to run aftermarket speakers. The only reason that you would bypass the amp is if you were installing an aftermarket head unit. You can't put power into something that is going to amplify it more unless you want things to start catching on fire.

Most factory amplified systems are a piece of garbage and if you got a chance to go aftermaket then do it. There are only a couple out there that are worth keeping as long as they don't break. If you do break anything in a factory amplified system, be ready to pay some money for replacement parts.
