I am getting ready to purchase an GSX and would like to know what parts I am going to need to be running about 300-350HP to the wheels. I been doing a lot of research but still can't get a direct answer of exact parts I'll need. I think the terminology is throwing me off a little bit like 2G and 14G turbos 16g turbos and it's just getting too confusing to me. Can someone please explain?? Thanks

Firstly, there's a 'Frequently Asked Questions' forum, with a lot of... well, you get it. Read it, and a lot will be explained.

Second. 2G is a designator... second-gen. The 1995-1999 model years. 1G is 1990-1994. There are further sub-designations (such as my 1990 is a 1Ga, as it has the popup headlights, as opposed to the fixed lights on the 1Gb... 1Ga is 1990 and 1991, 1Gb is 1992-1994. There are 2G sub-designations as well, but I don't know them off-hand), but it isn't overly important, other than to know the designation and sub-designation of your car. The others, you'll pick up as you become more familiar.

Third. Turbos. This is a lot harder to explain in simple terms. They're identifiers for different models of turbo. The 14b came stock on manual 1G DSMs, as an example. The 16g (or its brother, the Big 16g) is a turbo upgrade. You remove your old turbo and put the new one on. They handle different amounts of airflow, and different models can reach different levels of intake air compression, as well as 'spool' faster. The act of spinning up and actually compressing air, until it's reached your boost level.

Lastly, the Tech Guides give build-lists for 1G or 2G cars. I'm just curious why you'll 'need' to be running 300-350whp. It'll cost quite a bit.. and most people who put out those performance levels are quite into their cars, and do the work themselves. That or they have a crapload of money lying around that will be put to use sending their mechanic's child(ren) through college.

sorry for the probably dumb question but I did not even see that link to that page and I thank you very much for it. Thanks for the explanation as well. Again I'm sorry for the dumb post.

Thanks
