Hi!

I have just got an datalogger MMCD and did a log from coldstart to warm. It detects A LOT of knock, up to 43 counts. My car is stock and have 125k on it. Eclipse GSX 1990.

I have a log on my PC, but don't know what I am supposed to look for. Is there someone here that will look at my log and see if there is something wrong? And I don't know why I have so much knock. Have always run on 95 octane.

Please, I need help with this log.

Thanks!

My log includes:

TIMA, COOL, FTRL, FTRM, FTRH, O2-R, ISC, TPS, ACLE, RPM, KNCK, INJP, AIRT

Well, I can see your problem. As you can see, I am from Europe too and I have to tell you you have been and are using the wrong type of fuel. You will need to use 98 octane because we have a different type of octane notation than the United States have.
I was wondering about that too and thought I could go with the 95 ( called "Super" here in Germany ), but then I found out that the us notation is different from ours and that the premium fuel with 93 octane equals our "SuperPlus" with 98 octane.

WOW, I have never tried the 98 octane, but will drop by the gas station today and log again!!

Thank you!

Phantom knock.

Have the logger on and cruise around at 30-40mph. When you have 43 counts of knock let of the throttle completely and then get back on it. You may have to do this a couple times, but if the knock disappears, than you most likely have PK.

Do you have noisy lifters/ticking from the engine? When was the knock sensor last replaced (check for the brown goo leaking out of it to see if it's done for)?

There are tech articles and threads up the wazoo on this subject, just search "phantom knock."
