ok so i have been trying to find out wtf has been causing me to get only 175 miles to a tank of gas...i was doing some eliminating of lines (egr). well i was lookin over all my vacuum lines and noticed a line from the stock BC that goes to the intake pipe was not hooked up.. just chillin open.. would this have caused my horrible gas mileage?

If your still using the stock boost controller then it could be part of the cause. That hoses job is to bleed the boost back into the intake just after the MAF. If it's just hangin out then metered air is just getting dumped to atmosphere makeing your car run a bit on the rich side.

well i know i should be getting quite a bit more gas mileage then 175 per tank.. im just wondering if that vacum line would cause THAT much of a problem for my fuel consumption..

It's either your O2 sensor or your driving style that's causing your bad gas mileage. This is true 99.9% of the time. Check both.

well. as far as my driving style. ive been seeing my poor gas mileage for some time now. so i have been shifting earlier and staying out of boost.. still got the horrible gas mileage.. driving like a grandma get me 175 to a tank. if i boost a lot..heh. not even gonna go there.. is there any way to acctually test an 02 sensor.. or just replace it?

I don't think that will cause fuel problems. You just shouldn't see boost if that lines open well depending on which end is open, your actuator shouldn't be opening too. Possibly could be just your tires (deflated?). Post up your list of mods and grammar check please.

Sorry about the grammer. I type too fast. My tires are all at the same PSI. And inflated to the correct pressure. The line disconnected was the one that leads from the stock boost controller to the intake pipe. The only mods that i have are hardened LICP, and UICP. and RFL BOV. appreciate the help guys.

I just got back from AutoZone, and they ran the scanner on my car. Nothing came up about 02 sensor. The TPS sensor came up twice and small evap leak. I already knew of the small evap leak and replaced my fuel cap with no change. (that was weeks ago) and i did an ohms check on my TPS earlier and it checked good?

Their scan may or may not tell you if your O2 sensor is bad, it checks for a different type of malfunction. You need to actually log your O2 sensor in closed loop and make sure it's cycling.

OK thanks. I will have to go get one of those. Sounds like a handy tool to have.

Most likely it's your IC piping that is causing the bad gas milege. A adjustable fuel pressure regulator set at correct pressure will surely help this. When you change pipings, airflow measurements also changes, you may well even be getting weird idloing too when you changed the pipings. And are you recirculating the BOV?? If you are venting it to atmosphere to make it LOUD, you WILL DEFINITELY be losing gas milege cause your engine is running rich. Hope the helps.

My solutions??
-buy AFPR and set fuel pressure
-buy a good boost guage
-buy Wideband to monitor fuel and air.

I did all regular maintenance when i first picked up the car. When i got it, it was COMPLETELY stock. I was having this problem from the get go. I bought the new piping, and BOV hoping that it was my stock 2g BOV leaking. Because when i did my boost leak test i couldnt hold any pressure. But still could hit boost when driving + hold boost. i dont know? this car is sure a work out and lots of money! LOL

O and no i am not recirculating the BOV. It does not have the right (whats the word im looking for) flange? to run my BOV to the intake. But it was running circulated before with same effects. Gas mileage stayed the same after changing pipes and BOV.

Recirculating the BOV is performance and a BEAT TO DEATH topic, and has been concluded best to recirculate. The word is "Insert Fitting". You'll need one of these to recirculate it back in air intake. by recirculating you're throwing already compressed, dense, and cool air back into the turbo. Taking Absit's offer of getting a logger is best, it'll help you out what's wrong, it'll be useful in the future too and get a boost gauge to really determine if you're boosting or not, as we all know, the factory boost guage is unreliable. DSM isn't a cheap car, you'll be throwing alot of money into it. But maintence should save you lots of money.

ok thank you. I will find that insert fitting and get that on there. I am not very h3ll bent on having the vent sound from the BOV. and i will save me up some money for a good boost gauge and a logger. BTW where can i pick up a logger?

People on this website has them for sale cheap, the pilot palm is a pretty common user.

OK. Thank you guys for your help! I'll look into getting a logger. and ill pick up a boost gauge also. guess ill just drive like a grandma for the time being. HAHA!

No, no no no.
I already said EvoScan, EvoScan is the correct answer for someone with a '99. $50 and you have all the logging you could ever want.

OK. I will check out the evo scan.. thanks again guys for all your help! Hopefully ill get it running right soon!

I assume you did another BLT after you replaced the piping correct?

Do you happen to have an upgraded fuel pump in the car?

sorry on my late reply. I have been workin a lot. I did do another BLT and all was good. and no there is no upgraded fuel pump. I just bought a new upstream o2 sensor and going to put i in tomorrow. hopefully my car is just stuck in open loop, and this fixes it!

OK so i just changed out spark plugs again. And i changed my O2 sensor with no change in fuel mileage. AAHHHH!! This is really driving me nuts. So, so far i have no boost leaks. New O2 sensor, New plugs, Fresh oil change..gas mileage is still horrible. I am running stock fuel pump. And today i tested my FPR by unplugging the vacuum line to it.. After i unplugged it, it dropped rpms. Plugged it back in and it went back up. I am really stumped. anyone else have any ideas? O and also i unplugged the MAFS when the car was running and it hardly ran. Plugged it back in and all was fine. So any other ideas would be greatly appreciated...Still throwing code for small evap leak (changed the fuel cap) and two codes for throttle postion sensor which i ohms checked and it checked good..

Ok. So apperently everyone has givin up on this onthis. But today i took out my thermostat, and it was stuck wide open. So that has been replaced, and i also changed my vacuum lines. I am going to go running around for a bit tonight and see how well it affects my fuel mileage. i will post results up later tonight :)
