hey guys have a few questions,

I bought my current dsm about 8 months ago. It needed new struts, so I purchased some kyb gr2's. The ride is very stiff. When I hit bumps you defintly feel them. not as much as my buddy with lowering springs and full poly bushings, but it feels as if my car is lowered. My 2 two previous dsm's had a much softer ride then this one. Also I have a front strut tower bar. Im not complaining by any means, just kinda curious why this one handles so much better then the others. Im pushing 71k on the speedo, maby everythings just in better condition? What about over inflated tires? I know that it if there over inflated it will cause the ride to be a little more bumpy then normal.?

Any thoughts?

You do know that the stock struts are by KYB right? Could be your struts need to settle....I had KYB GR-2's on my GS and they were only a tad stiffer not MUCH difference.

GR2's shouldn't really feel much different from stock if at all. They're pretty much just OEM replacement shocks/struts. I have some on mine and they're pretty soft in my opinion. (time for a change) I think it might be your brain giving you mixed signals or something. :p

Higher tire pressures will give you a bit more harsh ride, but they shouldn't affect the feel over normal road bumps. Maybe you're just not used to the feel of new shocks?

Oh, and yes- good shocks will make for much better handling. It makes most cars feel less like you're trying to get a cookie pan full of water across the kitchen while holding it by one corner.

as far as having them settle, i've had them for about 6months now. My cousin has two first gens, and my other two cousins both have a first gen, all of there cars are much softer, but, if you push on the corners of there cars there is way more movement, as oppsed to mine where if you push on a corner, the car really won't give. i guess im just used to the worn, 14yr old struts that are on all of them. Thanks guys.

no thanks, like i said i wasn't complaining, just wondering

Pianoman,

My 92 TSi awd is the same way. I put a set of GR-2s on it and it is quite stiff. Hard ride, but excellent handling. It was a pleasant suprise.

yeah the rear is much more stiff then the front. granted they are oem replacements, maby kyb has made some changes to them in the 14years since they were made.
