There should be plenty of sets out there as people upgrade their automatics to 5 speed, but with how cheap these cars are these days, why not just buy an automatic GSX instead of cutting up a perfectly good manual one?

as far as the swap its pretty simple. i auto swapped my 1g with ease. basic stuff youll need to aquire will be:

    auto trans
    engine/ trans mounts
    flexplate
    converter
    halfshaft
    rear diff
    shifter
    shifter cable
    wiring harness
    tcu
you can substitute buying/ loacting a harness and tcu by wiring in a shift box from forced four.

theres literally no cutting involved. tbh most people that are trying to make power on a budget are going to the auto because they hold better than the 5spd in stock form.

I don't car what car it is. I don't care what engine. I don't care what day.

I will always drive a stick. And never convert a stick to a manual.

In my garage is a 1966 Mustang manual (stick) 289

    Also a 1965 Mustang (automatic) 302

Soon I will be converting the 1965 to a manual because even though it has a better performing engine it would still loose a race against the 66 because of takeoff issues.

But hey I guess everybody has their opinions, right?

After a couple few thousands dollars tranny repairs you may have a different opinion on this.

I honestly know nothing about the GSX manual trans.

But I can say that every manual I've driven was completely bullet proof. And the only error it has is user error.

Autos on the other hand always seem to have their own set of problems. And they also cant seem to hold the gear for nearly as long...

But hey I guess if you can find a well built auto, then go right ahead. But your still gonna be out a couple thousand bucks

you should probably do a little more research on the 4g63 auto trans. we have went bottom 10s on a stone stock auto in a full weight 1g with well over 500 passes and multiple thousands miles of street driving that we done personally not counting the the miles and abuse from the previous owner. my auto has less than $1000 in it and weve went mid 10s on wastegate pressure and has cut multiple 1.5 60" times on a dot tire. while the last "built" 5spd i had broke an input shaft on a 40 mph roll so there was no "user error" with that one. i used to say "stick shift for life" but ive learned with these cars when you start making decent power its way more expensive to build a reliable 5spd than an auto.

There has always been an argument:

"Which is better? Manual or auto?"

But this will always be argued, but never be determined. That's because THEY ARE DIFFERENT FOR EVERY SINGLE CAR.

Maybe you're right. You've been down roads I haven't so I'll listen to you. But in other cases I will choose the manual.

if i was build a more mild setup and doing autox or doing 1/2 mile or 1 mile events then yea id go for a the 5spd. but i drag race and im doing the car on somewhat of a budget so the auto makes more sense for me. after i broke the shep in my car i was done LOL i didnt want to spend almost $10k to get a trans that would last.

Unless you can afford to go dogbox, it's literally a no-brainer when you start shooting above 550-600whp it seems.

I'll miss the manual life, but I won't miss running 11's at almost 140 because the trans won't shift.

95/96 automatic transmission with matching transfer. Mate the same years rear end as well.

I have one if you want to rebuild it. Or I have one that is currently running and driving if you are on a budget. You are looking at anywhere from $400 to $750 for an Auto Trans.

Definitely get a shiftbox. Definitely try to get an upgraded converter or a restall stocker.

I went from FWD manual to AWD auto. The conversion shouldn't be that bad as long as you have the tools, parts and some mechanical skills.

id look for a 2g trans with a matching t case. i dont believe year matters as long as the t case year matches the trans year.
