Stereo will NOT turn on

My stereo will not turn on. All i did was simply unplug it, swap in a new ECU, plug it back in and nothing will work. I spent all day redoing every connection on the wire harness and checking fuses, yada yada yada... NOTHING no power whatsoever. everything else works just fine.

I know this sounds like the "wimp-out" answer, but take it to your local audio retailer and have them look at it. Typically, there's very little charge for this. Your problem sounds very unique, not like the typical radio problem for the 2G guys. You can always test for a short... but you're probably sick of looking at wires, laying upside down in your driver's side floorboard.

I guess I probably should take it to best-buy where I bought it but the warrenty is out and it wasn't "professionally" installed by them. I'm not sure what I should do. I really dont have the money to just fork out on them to fix it for 100+. Maybe i'll just make due with the stock deck for awhile until I have the funds. Is there fuses INSIDE my deck? It's a sony, i dont remember the model number off-hand but i'll look it up when i get home. Thanks guys.

My Sony has 2 fuses on the back of the deck. Check those.

All the decks I've seen have a fuse on the back of them, you should check that. How are you checking the fuses? Visual inspection or a multimeter?

It sounds like a blown fuse, check your radio fuse in the box, along with the one behind the deck. If they look ok, and you don't have access to a multimeter, change them with new fuses anyways. Sometimes a fuse can be blown but not look like it, it happend to me.

Well I dont know if my deck has a fuse INSIDE or not. There isn't one AT ALL on the back of the stereo. I'll take a picture tommorow morning, or this morning and post it. Is it possible that the deck could have a fuse INSIDE the casing? I dont know why it would but...

I'll replace my radio fuse as well. As i stated before.. it doesnt look blown but.. maybe it is. Who knows.


This has really been sucking without my stereo so far but it's kinda soothing just to listen to the sound of an engine from time to time..

Okay, I fixed it. For some reason, either I have NEVER had a fuse in there before, or it fell out as I was taking out the deck last time. There was a slot for a fuse I didnt even realize b4, so I threw a 10amp in there, started right up...


I hate it when it's something SO simple and retarded like that and it takes so long to figure it out...

I need to slap myself a few times in the face. Thanks for all your help guys.
