My wife drives a '98 Mitsubishi Eclipse with an OEM Infinity CD player and all of the sudden the sound only comes out of the speakers on the right...it is also a bit distorted and interestingly has an audible sound (like de-de-de-de-de-de) that is in sync with the RPM's.

I've checked all the fuses, yanked the unit out to inspect the wiring for damage and used some canned air on the connections. I'm out of ideas. Can anyone here help me...

Edit: I think the ECM is bad (don't think it matters but thought I'd mention it)
Someone mentioned they thought the amp under the passenger seat might be bad...does anyone concur? If so where would I get one?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Use a volt/ohm meter to check the signal wires from the radio to the amp for continuity to ground, then check the signal wires for cross continuity with each other. I'm not sure if the stock amp uses RCA cables, but either way, you should check the left channel against a ground first.

If the signal lines are good, either the radio or the amp is the problem, most likely the amp.

I got it! Somehow the plug going into the amp got knocked loose and was only half-way plugged in...I feel like I ended up taking half the car apart trying to get the radio out:p...but hey..nothin' beats a free fix. ;)
