hi guys.

i have a 98 gs-t, with the amplified infinity sound system(no disk changer). every since i got the car the radio has sounded great, but been very very picky about playing cd's. if they have any little hairline scratch, it skips like crazy. recently i was on my way to work and it was being as picky as usual, then it just "froze" all controls except the "high/mid/low" knobs stopped working and it was playing loudly, still skipping. i reached down and unplugged the factory amp, and figured i'd take a look at it after work. well the unit is junk, won't respond to anything, so i bought an Alpine CDA-9884

i'm planning on installing it myself, but i'm not sure as to what wirin harness/harnesses i need. i've found 5 or 6 that say they are for a eclipse in my range, some simple harnesses, some with rca cables. i have no idea what i need and was hoping i could find the answer here.

i was also hoping that someone might have a "stick on ribbon" type antenna that they recommend, because i hate using the motorized one(i had one in an old car that got stuck)

so any help on the wiring, (maybe a recommendation on the dash kit too), would be very very apreciated...

if he just wires the front dash speakers in to the new alpine deck he's installing, it will run the ohm load on the deck down to 1 ohm on what ever speaker output he wires up to. all of the stock speakers are 4 ohm. each output on a headunit is 2 ohm stable. two 4 ohm speakers wired up together in parallel will run the load down to 2 ohm. 4 speakers wired parallel to a headunit will run the load down to 1 ohm. the speaker output that was running 1 ohm would be fried in very short order.

He want be running 4 speakers parallel off each front channel just 2 speakers off the right front and 2 speakers off the left front which will drop it to a 2 ohm load. So it should be fine.

i thought there would be an easy answer... but i guess no...

so if i want to have all my speakers working, what do i do, and what harnesses do in need? can someone show me specific examples, so i know for sure what to look for?

There is a harness for the infinity system? I don't recall there being.. What you can do if you have some time on your hands... You can just buy some speaker wire and run your own new wire throughout the car... I would not hook the factory amplifier up myself I really do not suggest that. Bypass it, you will hear much better quality if the new alpine head unit is hooked up directly to your speakers.. You have an old amplifier in the car its not gonna compare to today's electronics.. I'm not a car audio installer or electrician.. I'm a mechanic, but i have installed easily 35 - 40 head units, some from work, most from my cars and friends.. I have had a few cases where i found myself with no other option but to bypass the system ( lack of wiring harness ) and im glad i did .. a question which i have for you is, is there an amplifier on the speaker itself? or a single amplifier powering all the speakers? as for the in-dash kit why are you so worried about it? i wish mine had a pocket instead of a black piece of plastic.. better then nothing

You get a harness adapter (check eBay, Mitsubishi radio harness adapter), wire it to the new radio's adapter, and plug the harness adapter to the car's harness at the plug behind the radio. Ignore the factory amp, as the output from any modern radio is three times what it can muster. See how that sounds to you; there's every chance you won't need to replace the speakers. A rolling DSM doesn't really have the acoustics of a concert hall.

Agreed:thumb:

ok, so if i just wire up the connector and leave the amp unconnected, everything works?

so i shouldn't get this:
Mitsubishi Receiver Wire Harness For select 1994-05 Mitsubishi and 1994 Dodge Stealth models at Crutchfield.com

i should get this:
Receiver Wire Harness For select Mitsubishi, Dodge, and Eagle models, 1994-up at Crutchfield.com

and this is recommended?

Mitsubishi/Eagle In-dash Receiver Kit 1995-up, chassis sizes E & S at Crutchfield.com

so just tell me out of the two connectors which i should get, and i'll find it all on ebay...

The second harness is the one you want. I'm not a big fan of the mounting kits- I think that one's a Metra. The Scosche kits all seem to have an under-sized DIN pocket. Refer to my link in Post #27, above, about that. The stock radio mounts will hold anything after-market, and more securely than plastic. Don't use the DIN cage if your replacement radio comes with one, and do yourself a favor and get a radio that has an SD slot, USB plug, and an AUX socket on the face. Don't bother shopping for name brands, just get some Chinese stuff off eBay. They work great, and cost about a hundred. Once you've had an SD slot in a car radio, you'll be spoiled.

thanks... i've ordered that kind of harness and kit, and i can't wait to get my deck in.

it's and alpine cda-9884, that i got brand new for 140, with and ipod cable and i plan on having my ipod stashed away in the glove compartment..

well i am a jerk and went with my gut and bought the wiring kit that has the rca amp cable, and it's great, all speakers sound wonderful. now i'm shopping for some decent base, and was thinking about one or two alpine e series subs, maybe 10" with an adequate amp. i've also heard of replacing the rear speakers with subwoofer type (?)composite(?) speakers? i don't want a ridiculous amount of base, but i'd like more than what the factory has. any help on this is greatly appreciated.
