I had been toying around about the idea to go auto for a few weeks, and while trying to sell my tranny online a local hit me up and we talked about just swapping drivetrain between our cars. His car is a stock 97 gsx auto, mine has a shep stage 4 5 speed, jacks transfercase, and aftermarket front axles.
Let me know what you think about this swap and what you'd do in my case, after thinking about it id think i need money ontop to make it equal

Now for installing on his car parts needed:
Transmission
transfercase
driveshaft
rear diff (possibly easier to just drop whole subframe)
4 axles
flywheel
clutch (he said he has one)
clutch petal
brake petal
master cylinder (does he have holes drilled in firewall)
slave cylinder
Ecu wiring harness

Putting auto in my car:
transmission
transfercase
driveshaft
rear diff
4 axles
brake petal
ecu wiring harness (does it also contain all wires for tcu)
tcu
parts id have to buy in order to get it up to par with my 5 speed:
Kiggly addaptor ($350)
new torgue converter ($500-1000)
Shift kit ($100)
Shift box ($200)

you'll need the auto intermediate shaft and auto passenger side front cv axle all other cv axles are the same.

drive shafts are the same.

You can use the 5 speed pedals. the clutch pedal will just sit at the floor.

If you swap wiring harnesses the auto one will have the wiring for the tcu. I just wired mine into the 5speed harness which was a pain.

I went with the forced 4 shift box lite and gear display much cheaper.

also look into the kiggly 5 friction front clutches.

and don't forget you'll need his A/T starter and starter plate

Okay so i can keep my axles for the most part
the 5 speed pedals would have to go in his car Edit: there not flowers
Good to know im over wiring
Starters also, good to know

The starter bolts will need swapped. They are different in length. The 5-speed is ~60mm on both. The Auto is 55 & 75.

You will need to swap engine/ECU harnesses or be prepared to butcher both. If you are swapping between 2ga and 2gb, you will need a tuning device to disable some of the emissions codes that will be activated if you don't also opt to swap the body harness. The purge and fuel tank pressure sensors are wired under the drivers seat and at the tank of a 2gb, they are under the hood of a 2ga.

You will need to swap shifters. Depending on how you want the cars setup, you may need to swap columns also. There are 3 cables on the automatic shifter. One for shifting and two for interlock. The first controls your gear selection. The second attaches to the brake pedal. The third attaches to the column/key cylinder. If you want wanting to keep the auto's factory function, you can either drill out the key cylinders security bolts or swap the columns. If you don't exchange them, you will be able to remove/roll the auto's key while in gear.

As mentioned, you will need to swap the intermediate shafts.

You will want to grab the TCU bracketry also.

You will need to swap the center consul.

The pedals are of course different.

I'm sure I've overlooked some things.

I forgot, you'll need a transmission cooler on the auto.

Great info that i overlooked, im fully wire tucked so i dont have any of that nonsense anyways, but im not sure if the auto guy needs all that for emissions i did mention it when we talked on the phone

Center consuls are the same from 5 speed to auto. Just remove the boot with a few screws and thats it.

Id honestly keep your built 5 speed. I love my auto DD but I really enjoy my 5 speed Weekend car.

I see your in aurora, what do you have done to the auto, ive never been in an auto so possibly if your availiable and down id love to take a ride around the block to see if i love or hate it, cause i do plan on driving around on the street often, if it was a full out drag car it would be a no brainer to go auto

Id be down to meet up. I just gotta get this emissions shit figured out before I start throwing e85 and some boost at her.

So far I really like it. I got a forcedfour shift box and STM tranny cooler kit that I need to install. Other then that just bolts ons FMIC evo3 16g FIC 950's ect

I would love to swap my 5 speed drive train for an automatic set up in equally good condition. My car has 68k miles. Would need to be done professionally,, so cost of labor only?? Im down for the right deal.

tjct ill send you a pm in a little while
ofgofg if you were to get it done by a shop in labor only id be willing to bet theyd charge somewhere around $2000
How much would everyone charge the guy with the auto to trade me his auto stuff for my built 5 speed stuff? im not sure if hes mechanically inlined or not either so im not sure if ill be doing all the work or if he would be able to help out
