hey,

I recently picked up a Data logger and am in the process of getting a
cable to hook up with.

What i need to know is:

1) Is there free software to tune my 1g?
2) Anyone have any links where I can download them.

Thanks

g

Well...

I have all the parts ready to start tuning...

My qustion is.. now that I am at the basic stage to start tuning my car..

-How far can I actually tune without an AFC/S-AFC?
Will I be able to see any power gains, better drivabilty with just basic tuning..

Basicly.. what i want to know is.. with what I have now: PDA..Cable.. Software
what can I do?

Thanks

G

hmm..

I see!

Thanks alot for the help man.

So, now I guess my next qustion is... which route should I go by?

Get a S-AFC or Maf-t?

Somthing tells me that the Maf-t way is a little more wallet friendly.

What are the pro's/con's of both?

Thanks again

:talon:

going with the gm maf-t isnt at all wallet friendly, you have to buy a gm maf, the translator and then u have to figure out how u want to run it(where in the intake system) and buy/make piping for it. If your planning on staying with your 450s for now you wont see any gain with the gm maf-t. on the other hand you can tune your car with the 450s using an safc which you can pick up for under $300, that along with the logger u can probably be heatsoaking your sidemount in no time. just watchout for knock

ok..

So if i upgrade to larger injectors, FMIC, GM maf...

I can run the MAF-T and the S-AFC along with the datalogger and be able to
start to really get into tuning?

OR... do you choose one or the other?

I really want to start tuning but i want to know what exactly I need to start tuning properly.

Thanks

G

You really need to read up more abuot tuning before you do anything else. Go to the tech section and read up.

Heres a BRIEF outline to get you started assuming your ready to spend more money,

1. Get your logger all set up and start logging rpms, timing, knock (read up on this too) for your stock injector setup.
2. Learn exactly how your car is supposed to look from log to log
3. Slowly raise your boost until your car starts to knock and timing gets pulled

at this point you need to buy bigger injectors/fuel pump(and an AFC to control them)

4. buy an SAFC on parts trader ($150)
5. Install it and get familiar with how it works (go to tech section)
6. Install bigger injectors THEN start tuning with the SAFC
7. raise boost

I have been reading alot on tuning so im slowly learning what i need to do.

Obviously, Im not going to jump into somthing Im not fimilure with, I just want to know
the best way to start tuning.

If im going to get bigger injectors in the end, do you think it would be a much better path to get a MAF-T setup rather then the S-AFC??

I know all this stuff is going to cost money, so i want to get the best setup I can. Might even go with DSMLINK. But for right now, I have only 2 options... MAF-T or S-AFC.

Thanks for your help.

dsmlink is ideal, but you need your ecu socketede, $550, a laptop, and an idea of what you are doing. Lots of reading and an SAFC is the best starting point. The maft isnt the best option by itself because you cant fine tune nearly as well as the safc.

i used the old school TMO to log and tune... its very basic but gives you a good start.. your stock sidemount is only gonna last about three good pulls before you heatsoak it maybe more or less depending on how hot it is... just do a good third gear pull how you have it now and you can adjust your timing and boost until you get an SAFC... the sooner you get started tuning and stop buying parts, the better off youll be when you start buying upgrades...

Im just curious to know...

Can you run S-afc with the Maf-t setup?

Thanks again

Gokhan

Yes, a local guy is using both and he just broke into 11s.

On the main subject, I plan to go the MAF-T route, because you're killing 2 birds with one stone, allowing better airflow, and getting a tuning device. If you do a pull through setup and not a blow through setup, cost should be about the same (if buying a new safc), because you won't need new piping.
