Starting Problems. Need hel guys I'm a noob!

Hey guys I just picked up a 1990 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. I knew that the battery was dead so I called my friend and he came and jumped the car. Still no start but every time that I tried to start it it made a sound like turbo spool. I don't think thats what it was but thats what it sounded like. I really need help guys. Thanks

So the starter is not catching??? We need a little more information on whats going on but from what i can tell by your description, it sounds like the starter is not catching onto the flywheel and is just spinning each time you try to start it.

That's exactly my thought as well. I'd take a look and see if the starter gear is lining up properly and also ensure that the starter itself isn't loose. I believe that the two bolts that hold it in place are are 14mm. Might as well check all of your electrical connections while you're at it.

Well when I try to start the car all it does is make the noise of spooling and then if I hold the key it will get louder as if it spins faster. I did this with and without jumper cables now and it did it both times but the time without the jumper cables it couldn't do it after one try. Somebody told me that I just needed a new battery. Could that be possible?

Like stated before, it really sounds like your starter is not catching onto the flywheel. I would do andy said and check to make sure it is tightened down all the way and sitting in its correct position.

OK guys. Thanks for all of your imput but I went out today and bought a brand new battery and terminals and it started right up. HAHA. I guess the battery wasn't strong enough to power the ignition system. Thanks again.
