I have a 98 eclipse gst and the starter relay is going out it is a auto but was a 5 speed supposedly it has the clutch pedal still in it and slave cyc. The question i have is i found a relay online for 6 buck's but it says for a auto. Does it matter if it is a 5 speed or auto would they be the same? Thank's

For 98-99 they use the same relay but use a different output pin on the harness (MT pin 4, AT pin 5). That's because the MT is normally closed but the AT is normally open (they work the opposite). But in your case they probably rewired it anyway to make it work. In any case you don't even need the relay if you just jumper the relay socket black/red wire (pin 2) to the black/yellow (pin 4 MT harness or pin 5 AT harness). The relay was only used to inhibit starting if clutch pedal is not pressed, or factory theft alarm prevents it, or AT not in park or neutral. So you don't need the relay unless you need those things.

Ok i juss tried to jump it over found 2 wires that was black/red and 1 black/yellow tried jumping them over with a piece of wire but it wouldn't engage the starter.

It only engages the starter when you have those two wires jumpered and you turn the key to Start. There should be two larger black/red wires. Jump from either one to the (same size) black/yellow. If you have the MT harness there will also be a green/black to ignore. If you have the AT harness there will also be a smaller black/red to ignore. Either way jumper the larger black/red to the black/yellow.

If it still doesn't work and you have the AT harness, your factory theft alarm relay may be activating to disable the starter relay or the theft alarm relay contacts are bad. In that case, jumper it's black/white to it's black/red to bypass it (can remove relay).
