on the starter relay (the blue relay on the floor behind the radio), what does the smaller guage green with black stripe wire go to. i know that the two black with red stripe wires are 12 volt wires and the black with yellow stripe wire goes to the starter itself. if anyone knows what that green with black striped wire is then please let me know

It goes to the clutch pedal safety (position) switch (and if you have the factory theft alarm system, it also goes to the theft alarm starter relay). This is right out of the Mitsu Eclipse circuit diagrams service manual.

(BTW Eclipse45150: He's asking about the green/black wire, not a black/yellow one.)

i know for a fact that the black/yellow wire goes straight to the starter itself. i have traced that one.

hmm..... that helps a lot. thanks so much.

The theft alarm starter relay is used to prevent the starter from operating (it actually ACTIVATES the starter relay which DISABLES the starter circuit and also removes power from ECU pin 71). (See post #7 here for clutch switch and starter relay operation: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1699919#post1699919).

I suppose if the theft alarm starter relay was intermittent or toggling when it shouldn't (after engine got running), it would cause power on ECU pin 71 (black/yellow wire) to toggle (via starter relay) which may cause strange problems to the MFI system.

well if i disable the clutch switch the car still won't crank. where is the anti theft relay located?

High up under driver's dash. There's a 10A fuse and 3 relays on a board. The lower right one is the theft alarm starter relay for M/T (upper left for A/T). It's the big one in the following picture (the power window relay has been replaced by a jumper in this picture):

Are you getting anything to happen at all (eg. relay clicks) or absolutely nothing anywhere? Is the starter relay being activated (no power on the black/yellow and ground [0 volts] on the green/black) when key is to start position?

the starter relay clicks when i try to start the car but the car doesn't start. so i took the relay from my other dsm to see if it were the relay(even though i figured the relay good) but the car still didn't start. i get voltage from the black/red wires and nothing to the others. but if i take the relay off and stick a jumper from the black/red wire to the starter wire(black/yellow) the car will start. seeing as it will start that way, i figure that the car not starting has to have something to do with the green/black wire.

can i just pull the antitheft relay and disable the system?

Yes.

The fact that the relay clicks means it is disabling the starter circuit which is because either the clutch safety switch is closed (defective switch or clutch pedal not pressed down) or the theft alarm starter relay is activated. Either of these grounds the green/black wire (0 volts) which activates the starter relay. So you can either 1) pull the theft alarm starter relay (assuming the clutch safety switch is working or disconnected), or 2) pull the starter relay and keep the jumper in as you did, or 3) leave everything in and cut the green/black wire on the starter relay (which makes it never activate).

awesome man. thanks so much for your help. it was all very helpful. now if i could just figure out my other problem (one linked to in earlier posts)

thanks again

Thank you so much for the help with the Black/green wire info- I had left my ignition Keys on the "ON" position by mistake for 20 minutes, for my girlfriend to listen to the radio..I thought it was on ACC., and the anti theft system apparently switched on....it took me 3 months to figure this out just now with your post---I checked everything else !---Thanks 10x !
