ok so this has been going on a while, when i turn the key sometimes the starter relay will just make a click, sometimes it starts to make a grinding noise.(the relay that is) i was going to swap relays from my 97 gst to this 95 gsx but they seem to look alot different. Is this really the starter relay ? Having a lot of no start conditions can i jump a few pins on this temporary to check if its a relay issue thanks.

Here is some helpful information I found from a simple search.

How to test:

You must be logged in to view this image or video.

Another option:

First try removing the relay and jumper the black-yellow to the black-red. This bypasses the starter relay so the starter solenoid will always get power when key is turned to Start. If this works your problem is either the relay itself, clutch pedal down position switch, or factory theft alarm. However if you don't care about the clutch pedal having to be pressed or theft alarm disabling the starter, you can just leave the jumper in (although I'd recommend soldering it).

[Normal starter relay operation on DSM cars: When key is turned to Start, the starter relay is normally closed (provides power to solenoid) but opens (no power to solenoid) if the clutch pedal is not pressed or stock theft alarm goes off.]

it could also be a wire back feeding from the starter to your relay, obviously try the relay first but also check the wires at the starter and make sure nothing is rubbed thru
