General Standalone ECU (PnP) that is plug and play while retaining stock OEM harness: whilst still being able to run ethanol and speed density?

I am looking at going Haltech stand alone (open to other options, Haltech just seems the easiest with PnP and UI), while DSMLink has just as many options, I mainly want the insurance to protect the engine build & additionally to just wanting to future proof myself by going full stand alone instead of coughing up the money for DSMLink and then hassle to sell it.

My main objective/question is, if I run a standalone ECU that has a plug n play harness to connect into the OEM engine harness (Check Haltech linkbelow).
Can I still tap into the MAF to use speed density and ethanol content like you are able to for DSMLink?
Or would I need to tap into the actual adapter PnP harness for the ECU and if so does anybody have any insight on this?

You won’t be able to take full advantage of any system with the stock wiring harness. You might be able to get the engine running but, will be short a lot of things.

And no, nothing will be a true plug and play. There will always be at least one if not more sensors you will have to wire in or prepare to modify for. I do not get why people are so scared of wiring and always look for “easy” paths.

Put a real ecu and a real harness in the car and use it to your full advantage. I am quite biased and think FuelTech is the only ecu anyone should put in their car. Any of the Haltech’s for me are a ways down the list. I would choose Holley before them. Yes, even for a 4G63.

Without weighing in on the merits or drawbacks of any of the standalone options because I don't really know, I do have a stock harness plug N play Haltech Elite 1500 running my car. Yes, you can use the ECMLink SD Harness with the Ethanol option through the plug N play adapter from Haltech. I needed to rewire the baro pin to the MDP pin on the factory harness to make the Haltech work (The baro input on the harness does not correlate to a connected pin on the ECU side through the plug and play adapter). Other than that, it fired up like factory including with fuel composition reading correctly. You will just have to do some configuration changes beyond the base map file provided for the 2G cars. I attached an excel sheet mapping the factory wiring to the Elite 1500 through the plug n play adapter. It may help.

That is great, how has it been holding up?

So just go ahead and order the SD/ethanol cable and hook it up normally for DSM Link.

This was for the SD/Ethanol reading or just getting the harness to work?
Just needed to repin one wire?
I wonder if this would be the same procedure on the nexus.

What configurations were needed to be done, did Haltech set up a base map?
Thank you so much for sharing that, hopefully i can reference it over to the nexus.

Yeah that is true, the plan is ohm racing harness when built motor is done, I just rather future proof myself while doing some tasteful mods before full send.

Fuel tech is badass, is there anybody who makes a harness for it too hook up to 2g DSM?

I drove the car once on the Haltech so far. So I can't really tell you much in how well it works etc.

The Baro to MDP swap was required because the ECMlink harness uses the factory baro input (located in the MAF) to access the MAP sensor you would install when doing the swap to SD. The Haltech PnP adapter does not connect the factory baro wire to anything on the ECU side. So you need to wire the baro wire to the MDP wire on the factory harness side if you want to make the ECMLink harness work with the Haltech.

Haltech does have a basemap for the 2G cars available and that will get you 90% of the way there as far as basic wiring and sensor scaling. You will need to make adjustments based on your setup, like scaling the MAP to match your sensor etc.

I couldn’t tell you. I wire all the cars I touch. Only two DSM’s so far and probably ten other types of cars. If it isn’t obvious, I am not a plug and play kind of guy.

Like I said, learn a new skill. You will be a better hot rodder for it.

FuelTech has an internal map sensor that doesn’t waste a valuable input and cost you extra money. FYI
