Ladysmith,
Hey guys

I'm planning a 2.4 project in the near future using g4cs block and 1g head, full T4 most likely. Just wondering if a dsmlink with GM Maft would give me the necissary tuning to reach 9-10's, or will i need standalone, I'de rather support DSMlink and it's cheaper, but, I'm not sure if it will give me what i need.

Thanks

Wayne

IMO, if you are shooting for 10s, DSMlink is quite capable of helping you to get there. If you are seriously wanting to pull a 9sec quarter, there is no need to be concerned with the prices of anything you buy. So I say go full stand alone.

Ya, I've been trying to decide if I really want to try and hit 9's. 10's might be enough, but with the potential of a 2.4 with the long rod option, I was thinkin of going for it. Is there anything significant that a Standalone would offer me, or is it just the fine tuning.

Thanks

Wayne

Not to be nastey but if you have to ask, probably just the DSMLink. The only way to decide between the DSMLink and any stand alone is to read up and know each inside and out so you can decide if you'll use all that one haves to offer and not another. You don't even know what you're compairing.
Now disregard this if you're just going to pay someone to install and tune the engine managment components.

Hell no, LOL
I by no means would ever pay someone some cash and say here tune my car. I was just lookin for some opinions as to the capabilities of the DMSlink, I have moderate tuning knowedge, and plan to learn as I go, I've been doin alot of readin, but just thought i'd pick up a few opinions.

Thanks

If that is the case...go with DSMlink until you can go no further, then switch to stand alone. A stand alone EMS is NOT for someone who isnt very good with tuning.

Ok, well I'm not sure if i'll be good with tuning or not, cause i've had no experience, which would make me not good (at the moment) - LOL :p , But once I get into it, i'll see if it's my thing or not, I'm pretty sure I will be cause everything that i've read makes sense to me, and I really wish i had something to start learning on. I probably will take your advice and get the DSMlink, but i dont want to waste money, so if i think i can handle it, i might just go with the Standalone, you gotta learn somehow, right? ;) LOL

Thanks guys

Wayne

(lil note, my project wont be commencing for a number of months, which will give the time i need to learn what i havent yet, so if anyone was going to say, you shouldnt do this project cause you dont know enough, dont worry LOL :) )

I have a 2.4 with the dsm link. works out great. I wouldnt say its easy to tune, you might end up with a bug once in a while but its nothing that cant be taken care of with time and patience. I was scared of a stand alone, there arent any awd dynos around here and I wouldnt trust the shops around me to tune it. I would think about what tuning tools you have access to, helped me make my decision.

Hmm good point, ill take that into consideration. :thumb:
What times/hp are you getting out of your setup (which is a nice one i might add) and did you assemble it yourself? Any good tips/advice/guides for that project? Cuz I should be getting started on mine in a few months. Oh and what made you pick the 2g head? The 1g flows better....or is it cause the guys at magnus wanted the extra material on the head so they could port it the way they wanted to?

Sorry for all the q's

Thanks

Wayne

I know of setups approaching 10's on just MAFT alone. See how far you can go with what you got and upgrade when you find a limitation.

Okay, I've been thinking of doing a blow through MAFT setup anyways, and use it in conjunction with DSMLink, so I guesse I'll just go with the DSMlink. I just dont want to waste money doing one thing, then have to change it or sell it and do another. But with this path I can make do with the MAFT and then get the DSMLink on the month after's paycheck (or 2 months combined :barf: LOL)

Thanks for the input guys
