Hey.. i was wonderiin if anyone has ever done a Sportronic Transmission on a 91 GSX. My car is an automatic so I wanted to do this swap if possible. I didnt want to go thru the swap of doing a Auto to manual swap instead i wanna go for Auto to SemiAuto or Sportronic Tranny swap. I figure this would be something new to think of. I kno that this would cost a lot but i am willing to do it if i find some kind of guildance and reassurance. I figure that why do a Manual swap when i can go for the new technology and go for a Sportronic 4speed Automatic transmission. My old tranny is going its making really bad shifts, everytime i slow down it would make a loud "thud" sound wen it downshifts or shifts up. I figure its slipping maybe. Plus i cannot go past 4500 RPMS for some reason. When i park and rev it goes up to the higher RPMs but wen im driving it shifts at 4500 rpms wen i want it to go higher... if i reach the last gear then it goes higher but otherwise im thinking its shifting too early. :thumbdown
 
That thud your hearing is probly just bad mounts. You can get a stutterbox which lets you rev the engine up in drive and you control when the clutch engages, I suppose you could get a sportronic tranny out of one of the newer 4cyl eclipses as they have them, but I dont know if it would fit and even if it did you'd have to make your car FWD.

It'd be a complete engine/transmission swap, and completely custom, if it'd fit. You would be building a DSM around the new powerplant. If that's what you're up for, take lots of pictures because we'll be keen on watching. From a distance.
 
If I understand correctly IPT offers a box to do this . I thinjk right now its only 2gs but I havent researched it alot. By unplugging your tcu and into the box you can shift manually at the track and unplug it and plug the tcu back in for normal at mode. Some guys have wired this up themselves in a 1g but it is something to look into not really a tiptronic type of deal.
