California, USA,
Just finished the "Free Mods" recommended on this site (... thanks!) ... except for cutting out around the vents in the splash shield leading to the intercooler. I'm just a little worried about rocks, etc. damaging the intercooler. Will regular window screen really provide adequate protection ... or is there a better approach?

Mine came loose on the highway and the tire ate a good chunk of it. I priced one out at dodge and they are only $40 Canadian. I found that it's easier to keep the intercooler clean without that guard in place.

There are no rear spashguards....

Incorrect. The 2G's at least have them. They are much smaller than the ones in the front and they are only to the rear of the tire (partially attached to rear bumper fascia). The remainder of the wheel well is part of the body of the car.

The non turbo wheel wells are one piece, but if you look closer they have a seem that lines up with a turbo wheel well. Cut it along that top seem and it fastens in the same places.

Id be more worried about debris hitting your intercooler from the front, if your tires are throwing debris forward, your going in reverse.

Nothing is going to stop your intercooler from corroding unless you coat it with something.

Ended up going with mitsubishiparts.com as they were around 10% cheaper. Spent around $200 total LOL . Ended up getting the splash guards, new belts along with timing belt, fuel filter, and a few other misc things.

So I'm guessing you went with the 2000-2004 Eclipse model splash guards (because that's all the company offers)? That is to say, the 3G model Eclipse guards bolt right up to the 2Gs? All I could find where these mud guards with and without cladding.

I saw these in the shop and it got me thinking. I know this is a botched way of doing it, but would it be worth cutting holes in the wheel arch liner (specifically passenger, but maybe drivers too) to help with airflow around the oil cooler and going to the front brakes. Am not thinking of huge holes in the linder, but just a few square inches.

Just a thought and may be a dumb one, but let me know what you think.

I like them. But they're not going to flow much more, if any, over stock fender liners. Notice the size and dimensions of the air ways.

I bet I can find something similar at ACE hardware from less than 49 pounds though, would sure beat chicken wire type stuff or large cut out holes in the liner.
