speed daddy td05 turbo upgrade kit?

I am fairly new to the dsm world, I have owned my 97 gsx for about 6 months now. I have done all the maintenance and am wanting to do the stage one upgrade. I found a 1995-1999 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 4G63 TD05 TURBO KIT 12psi on ebay. heres the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1995...:Mitsubishi&hash=item27b6286deb#ht_5769wt_939 and i was wondering if its a good kit for this upgrade. The price says no but i dont know. Help is appreciated...
 
That kit is crap. If the price is too good to be true, it probably is.

You said you're new to these cars. Don't buy anything yet. Just lurk on this forum reading threads. You'll soon see certain names and brands being talked about. You don't have to spend a fortune to get 100x better quality.
 
Well theres a few things that should shy you away from this kit.

A) It's an ebay kit, so its an ebay turbo. Not too many people have had luck with these chinese 16gs.
B) That intercooler is tiny, if you ever wanted to go bigger, that would need to be replaced.
C) It will take some work to make this kit actually fit. Piping will need to be cut, as well as trimming of your car. Def. not a bolt on kit, if thats what you were after.
D) Its cheap, and you get what you pay for, so most components will be cheap, and by the looks of it, lots of it is.
E) Ebay tubular manifolds are notorious for cracking.
F) The gauges bug me. A boost gauge and a tach?

The only good thing about that kit, is th piping. I like ebay piping, cause its cheap. But would be a waste to spend $800 for a kit like this. Call up a vendor (like MAPerformance), and see what they can do for you, don't cheap out on performance parts. Otherwise, start browsing the classifieds for deals.
 
Are you looking for an all inclusive kit or are you willing to buy parts separate. the ebay turbos are questionable at best. i'm not saying you can't get good stuff. you may just need some good guidance. you will def want to know what your objective is.. what you want outta the car performance wise. just a thought

Oh and this is my christmas list I am finding what I want first. I am not going to go out and just buy stuff without knowing what I am buying
 
I run that turbo turbine housing and actuator with no problems on my 14b. :)

Other than that, looks like junk.

Stage 1? Oh no. Take it easy one buying stuff, your probably going to do it wrong. Heed advise from members on here and stay the hell off ebay untill you know whats a good deal. You need to start from the bottom before putting any more over then stock.

Its not too hard to screw up a diaphragm and a chuck of metal with some material cut out ;). Its the center sections, wheels, bearings, shafts...etc..that are crappy. I made a shaved comp cover from an ebay turbo for one of my buddies, but thats on an evo 3 center section.

Btw- we aren't dealing with SRT-4's here, dsm's dont really have clear cut stage setups. Calling it "stage 1" is bound to frustrate some people on here.

What do you mean by bottom. I have on my list an injen short ram intake, apexi boost gauge, a forge recir. bov, manual boost controller,apexi gt spec exhaust, punishment o2 housing, apexi high flow down pipe, garrett big t28, i dont know what exhaust mani to go with for that turbo, the walbro 255lbh, the weapon r afpr type 2, and i need a good fmic kit. Is there anything I need to do before that?

Sorry about the stage 1 thing its on this website so I thought I would call it that.

Wow, absolutely nothing in that kit will bolt directly to your car. The manifold MIGHT fit the head without hitting something, and that's about it.

I can't believe someone would actually consider buying that junk for the price they're asking. The f*cking oil lines they give you doesn't even fit the turbo that is included with the kit...they're for a Garrett T3.

I think it's pretty safe to say that in the amount of time that it takes to read through the entire listing, some part in that kit will fail. Either the turbo will take a shit, the FPR spring will break, a coupler will blow out and you'll lose an intercooler pipe....SOMETHING will fail in the first 5 minutes.

If your going with a T-28 turbo I would recommend the FP BT-28 ported & a FP racing exhaust manifold thats what I run & love it.

Your stock manifold should be good enough with a little porting and I would probably stay away from the weapon r afprs, havent read anything good about them. Go with something that is proven to work on our cars like an aeromotive. They arent much more expensive and are really nice.
 
I have been looking around and a lot of people say the evo 3 big 16g is pretty good with the evo 3 manifold it is a little more reasonable for my plans than to get the garrett but hey I am new at this I dont really know...
