Hey, I've been creeping these forums for quite some time now, just getting schooled on all sorts of information on dsm's. This is my first tuner car, I kind of just fell into it, I have been mostly a 4x4 guy, but I moved to Tucson, Arizona and picked up this car as a project, and have been enjoying the hell out of it. Based on the specific upgrade path, I have been slowly building up my car, and my work in goes like this:

1997 Eclipse GSX AWD standard, 150k, 7 bolt
Serviced rear diff, tran, and oil.
Checked timing belt, fluids, replaced all questionable vacuum hoses, all good.
New idle air control valve to mitigate high throttle on idle

Parts in:
K&N AF w/cold intake
Spark plugs & harness
Gauges: Fuel Pressure, Air/Fuel Wideband, and Boost
1g BOV
Made my own boost controller
walbro 190 fuel pump (rewired)
Replace stock IC piping with aluminum

Parts acquired but not installed:
Full Megan turboback 3" system w/o2 housing going in this weekend most likely
720 cc fuel injectors

So I've been getting cracked out on this car, did all this shit in like 10 days, even with my busy school/work schedule. I'm planning on getting an evo 3 turbo and a tubular exhaust manifold that will upgrade the stock one I have now. I'm looking for specific direction on what to do next. I'm not looking for a specific horse target, just looking to fill out what I've outlined for this daily driver. I hate the idea of shelling out for a dsmlink, but i have a non eprom ecu, which kind of pisses me off that I have to sink 700$ just to tune the car. I figured someone knowledgeable here could tell me what the next logical step is, I've done all the obvious, now I don't have a ton of cash left to do everything, so I could use some guidance. Thanks!

One last question, I just bought the evo 3 turbo, what else am i going to need to get it set up? Do I need an all new housing? If so, recommendations?

If you're looking into saving for tuning but but want the same control as you'd get with dsmlink, I'd suggest looking into ecuflash. ECU (around 100$) ecuflash openport 2.0 plug with mitsu reflash cable (180$) and evoscan (25$). So a total of 305$ give or take 50$ depending what kind of deals you get and if you run big maps on ecuflash.

Not sure what you mean by new housing, but you'll need an install kit to get the 16g to work or you can mix-match with 1g turbo parts and make it work for cheap.

Okay, kind of new to the different ECU's, I checked mine out today and it doesn't have an EPROM. So to be able to flash it, I'd need to pick up a used 2g ECU with an EPROM chip I understand? I would just swap em out, and then im good to go to get the stuff to flash it?

No need for an eprom when it's ecuflash, but you will need one of these ecus:

1998 DSM

Production Dates -> 7/97-5/98

FWD Ecu Part # -> MD346675
FWD ROM Id -> EM2055

AWD Ecu Part # -> MD346676
AWD ROM Id -> EM2056

PCB Code: JE331B156C

.
1999 DSM

Production Dates -> 6/98-4/99

FWD Ecu Part # -> MD359402
FWD ROM Id -> EM2363

AWD Ecu Part # -> MD359403
AWD ROM Id -> EM2364

PCB Code: JE331B156D

The pcb code is printed in white on the actual control board. Look at the first photo in the link.

Hence the price of the ecu I quoted. Once you have one of those, a simple swap is all you need to do. Quite a couple treads on ecuflash if you want to read up on what it is, capabilities and so on. I like it though. The upside of this type of tuning is that if you reach a tune you're dead-set on, keep it and sell the tactrix cable, in other words your tune cost you 50ish $ plus the price of the ecu!

Right on, I'll start looking for one of those on the marketplace. Ebay doesn't seem to be full of good deals on those right now.

Also, does anyone know what kind of install kit I need for a mhi evo 3 turbo if I am using a stock intercooler? I figured for my setup, I wouldn't need a front mount, but it seems like the kits are geared toward those front mounts. Would I need to piece together or fab? If its too much trouble I will most likely spring for the frontmount.
