I'm installing the cams in my head in preparation for bolting the head down to the block. I have a quick question. Is there a specific direction you install the cams? Do you install them with the dowel pointing straight up? I installed the intake cam with the dowel pointing straight up and the valves in cylinder 1 and 2 were open slightly, is this normal?

Yea it's normal. If you were to look at it in a cut away view you would see valves starting to open up before the piston was even at TDC.

I just did this a couple times. I started with the pins reasonably straight up and it seemed to make it easier!

Okay cool, seems easy enough. Now when installing the cam caps, if the cam gears are to the right and youre standing in front of the head staring at the exhaust ports, the cap order goes:

I6 I5 I4 I3 I2 I1 Intake Gear
E6 E5 E4 E3 E2 E1 Exhaust Gear

Right?

I understand they need to go in order..., I'm asking if that is the correct order that I drew out. My caps are numbered 1-6 on the intake and exhaust, so is it

I6 I5 I4 I3 I2 I1 Intake Gear
E6 E5 E4 E3 E2 E1 Exhaust Gear
